You don't actually need the mset and stuff for the new 3DS either. You just need to use Cubic Ninja or OOT (and you'll still need those to install mset anyway). The mset hack is excessively complicated, did not have correct instructions, breaks when you play a DS game, and is a pain to uninstall if you want to get rid of it. And it depends on a devmenu that Gateway won't provide you, even though the mset cia is just as illegal. It's so ridiculous that I'm surprised Gateway even bothered including it.

well the mset cia can be easily made from contents on nintendo's cdn, gw could have made a little script to download them and build it. (unlike devmenu)
how is the mset hack complicated? you click some buttons 4 of 5 times and you are in gw mode. and how is it a pain to uninstall? just play a ds game right? or format sysnand, but no real reason to remove the hack anyway.
i would have thought nintendo would have provided devmenu .3ds for us though.

quick question, do I have to downgrade my N3DS to a 4.5 in order to use the latest firmware on EmuNAND. I have no problems to continue using the Zelda cartridge to launch the exploit. Also once you downgrade does the exploit break when you load a DS game, at which point you would then need to use the blue card to reapply it?

If you have a way to help people that are on 5.x-9.2 without a working browser to use the online exploit, feel free to share, you'll make a lot of happy people.

I never said I had a way for 5.0-9.2 without a browser, nor have I mentioned that the 2 games port would be useless. This argument is totally different to the original statement, which is to have a DS profile on the 9.x firmware rather than actually downgrading the console. Not everyone wants to downgrade, for various reasons, most notably, saves incompatibility.

I said those people without a working browser need another offline exploit, so the Cubic Ninja/Ocarina of Time one. They'll never be able to use an online exploit as they don't have a working browser because those 3DS were never updated online (cart updates don't have browser update in it).

Yeah, fair statement. It was never argued that we don't need another exploit. Again this is a whole different argument. The whole argument is not related to whether we need the 2 games to be ported or not. The whole argument is that this new DS profile exploit which doesn't require you to downgrade the system CAN exist without the REQUIREMENT of having the games ported. These are 2 different exploits. The games port would simply be an additional exploit (which I agree we should have)

And you said "no, they don't need it, they can use the online one", but no, they can't. Get a O3DS which a "0" digit at the end of the firmware, with-in the 5.0-9.2 range and try the exploit browser, you'll see by yourself it don't work.

Again, you are just forcing people to downgrade. The point of porting this new DS profile is to keep your 3ds on a 9.x firmware and still have an offline method. The entry point for installation would be the online method we have so nothing needs to be ported in that area.

The argument to have the Zelda/ninja games ported for those without a working exploit is valid (and yes, needed), but is in no way REQUIRED to get the DS profile exploit running. It's a whole new exploit for those who do not even have an exploit!

The answer is not "if you really want the DS profile exploit, then, you can just downgrade". Really? No shit lol. The argument was related to having the DS profile ported. It wouldn't require the 2 games port as we already have an entry point. Those who do not have an exploit are simply asking for an exploit. That's not what we are talking about! Where did I said this exploit was useless for O3DS users? It's mainly an O3DS update only, because of the emunand 9.7 support, so of course it' bring a lot to O3DS.

What you are talking about here. The emunand 9.7 and whatnot, is an update to the GW firmware, not an exploit. 2 different things

So, quoting the original statement again, now that you know about those browserless 3DS issue. Of course, they need to port the Cubic Ninja/Ocarina of Time exploit (or find another offline exploit) if they want everyone to be able to use it.

Of course, people with browser exploit might be able to run it if it works on O3DS, but I don't think much people care. People who wanted a offline exploit already downgraded (and only a few people care about the save incompatibility with retail cards as probably 99% of gateway users doesn't use retail cards), so pretty useless for O3DS users that already have a working exploit (especially when probably most users don't use the browser exploit, except to downgrade).

And if it doesn't work directly on O3DS (didn't tested), I just think it would be a waste of time to port this mset thing to O3DS.

Thanks first of all for telling me about the browserless issue. I didn't know that existed.

That being said, my statement still holds. To get the mset/DS profile exploit running, we don't NEED the Zelda/Ninja exploit to be ported as well.

Those who have a browser, can simply use the online method. Those without a browser, simply need an exploit to begin with! It has nothing to do with having zelda/ninja as a requirement for new DS profile method to be ported.

no no no downgrading a N3ds is not possible and will BRICK it.
this method is supposed to just downgrade one app (the system settings app) back to 4.5 so that the old exploit works.
but it is giving me hell to boot to gateway mode without emunand so i cant test it now

that is 4.5 only, so no.

what i will do when i have access to my n3ds later today:
boot up FBI via ninjhax, delete the old mset, install the downgraded mset.
-then load up gw via my oot exploit
--in the gw menu, install the exploit to the downgraded ds profile
done. now i can load gw via settings.

i already have and created emunand, so i don't even need to touch that. i don't even need to remove my microsd card from the 3ds, i'll just transfer the new launcher.dat and .cia wirelessly.
no need for another micro sd card

Here is how i got the exploit to run for me.
Because of my main sd card having emunand i used another mSD. After inserting the mSD the n3ds creates new folders on it. After you succesfully installed NVRAM and the cia (i used Devmenu.3ds because Bigbluemenu said the cia was invalid) i copied the extdata folder onto my main sd card and replaced the sysnand extdata folder. After that the exploit worked for me.
Maybe this helps some of you. And also check if the MD5 is correct after downloading the update and transfering the mset onto your mSD

Its offsets will all be wrong and it's using an arm9 exploit that's patched on 9.x. So pretty much not a chance.
