My WODE on my softmodded JP Wii suddenly stopped working.

Whenever I open WODEflow I get a black screen. If I try to eject the disc from the Wii menu, it says I have an error and that I should reset.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Why don't you try to use something different, like, the HBC (Homebrew Channel), instead of using that program to run games, you could hack your Wii with that, and install a whole different set of programs that may aswell work better than the one you're using for, don't you think?

Well, for one the WODE was working before, so I know it can. But mostly it's because the WODE, when it was working, ran GC games great.

My emulated NAND it still seems to work. Argh!

Any idea what my problem is?

WODE is great, the problem is that is a little bit outdated, it came in 2009 and even with the features of using Gamecube games and Wii games in both iso and wbfs, it didn't have an update after that, so, i recommend you trying to start the program in a different way, like, installing something else to the mainbase of that to run the older programs.

If that didn't work, try my first suggestion, if you told me the Firmware your Wii has, it would be helpful to understand that if your Wii is hackeable, or not, at least in the sense of HBC anyway.

Try not to force too much the NAND though, you sure have a copy of it, so, you shouldn't worry about that.

Well, here's what happens when I try my other loaders:

WiiFlow: crashes, black screen
LoaderGX: crashes, black screen
CFG: it says Custom IOS 249 is just a stub

is IOS 249 the problem?

Ok, the rest of the programs are working?, if it's like this, try to eliminate IOS 249 and reinstall it, if it's possible, try to download that in another website, then install Cios with base 56 since most new games are working with this one, try to erase the carpets where Wiiflow and LoaderGX are, and reinstall them again from another source, that's maybe the problem there, if that doesn't work, try to check another kind of IOS that enables a better compatibility with your programs, or update your Homebrew Menu for better compatibility.

Ugh, I can't seem to find how to do that.

Is there a tutorial somewhere?

Do you have wad manager?, if you have that program you can install any wad to your Wii, those wads include the cios and the ios neccesary for each part of the Wii, some IOS are in separate parts as standalone programs, so, it can be confusing, but you can grab the feeling when you do it over and over, here are some links:
http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-guides-tutorials/66603-wad-manager-guide.html
https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/cios/waninkoko

You may need to install the cios 2dx to run the programs, read again the tutorial version of your loaders, and watch step by step, and compare that to what you have done wrong, in no time you'll find the answer.

I've tried various things -- it's not the USB drive, it's not a region issue. Nothing at all loads from WiiFlow or GX, although both open up and can preview games. HBC works fine.

I'd really like to get the damn WODE working again!! It was so convenient!

Is my best option to reset the Wii to original factory settings? Or should I give up on the WODE?

Yes, I do have a wad manager. I'll have a look. Thanks for the link.

Edit: I have installed wads before, and I think I know how to do it. If 249 is the problematic location, what should I do? Should I just erase what's there and leave it? What should be at that location?

Is this what's causing my problems? Everything was working fine just yesterday. :(

Should I reinstall d2x cIOS?

That could explain why the loaders don't work, but you should still be able to use the wode's built in controls to load games. Maybe one of the ribbon cables going to the wode became partially unseated?
Does it load whatever iso the wode autoselects?

How can I tell? When I have it set to Autoload CFG it seems to do what it's usually done. Then when I select Wodeflow I get an error telling me to reset the Wii.

I also tried setting it to Autoload off and tried to manually load it from the Wii home menu using the WODE screen and joystick. The loading screen discs spin, and then I get the same error telling me to reset the Wii.

Seems weirdly coincidental that the ribbon would become unseated and the softmod loaders would both stop working at the same time, don't you think?

Let me add I can run games from the EmuNAND WiiFlow, but for some reason it won't read from the HDD there, just a USB stick.

Okay, maybe this is the problem:

The WODE seems to stay at 0 reads 0 kb when booting a ROM.

Should I reinstall the firmware on the WODE? Or is it the ribbon?!

edit: I updated the firmware, but it's still 0 Reads 0 kb

Using a different HDD makes no difference, and I tested both for errors. The WODE reads from the HDD and puts together a list just fine.

edit 2: I tried loading a legit disc in flat mode, and the screen with the spinning disc just spun and spun and spun.

Then I tried loading off the HDD, and it's doing the same thing, just spinning and spinning.

In case anyone is curious, I downgraded to 1.28 WODE firmware and it's working again.

No idea why that would do the trick, but it did.

The firmware you had previously, probably became corrupted somehow, hence when you "downgraded" it literally overwrote the bad firmware image. If you happen to have issues with games that came out later in the Wii's life cycle, you should be fine updating back to the latest WODE firmware. I don't think its a bug with that firmware version itself, just that something went horribly wrong with it, in your case.

Also to people suggesting he should've just switched to a softmod, regnad clearly stated he just wanted to get his WODE back up and running, he paid hard earned cash for a device that's supposed to work, I mean, I can understand suggesting it if all methods of troubleshooting the WODE lead to the WODE being bad, but people didn't even try and just jumped to the conclusion he should forget about it and just softmod. If you're going to help somebody, at least read what they're telling you.

Right you are! I upgraded back to 2.9 and it still works like a charm! Thanks!
