Uninstalling the DS Cart White list but not installing a replacement will brick TWL (aka, DS games no longer boot), but the console will function normally otherwise. So you can still boot into Gateway mode or restore a NAND backup with gateway menu if you are unable to install a replacement DS Cart White list.

Ok, thanks man. (Such relief). I have a 4.2 NAND backup so ill just go back there and reupgrade using smash.

Are you installing the CIA via what method? If it is through GW, you are safe.
If you install the CIA and by any means it doesn't work, you simply won't be able to boot into DS mode, but you can still go to the Gateway Menu and do a NAND restore.

This is the CIA I used:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/release...probably-n3ds-too.376719/page-28#post-5411072

I downloaded that one (N3DS option was gray for me too), installed it in sysNAND and got no issue.

I think you're talking about the old method, where you just install that cia and you're good to go.

We're talking about a completely different method. We're talking about this....

This is what I ended up doing. Uninstalled the whitelist and installed the original, pulled from the CDN. Yeah, it can be updated but it's not like I plan on installing >9.2 on sysNAND unless something else comes along.

Use 3DNUS and download titleID 0004800F484E4841, set version to 0 and pack as a CIA. Place it on your SD card somewhere. Use a CIA installer (like BRM or FBI) to uninstall this title from NAND and install the one you made. Quadruple check that you removed the correct Title. I cannot stress this enough.

Congrats, you've downgraded to the DS Whitelist from 1.0 and it's 102% legit.

Well, the only difference is that I simply didn't uninstall it first, that was it.
Out of that I pretty much did the same for the rest of the steps.

What difference does it make if you Uninstall the title and then install it back with the 1.0 CIA instead of just installing the CIA without removing it first?

Well, nobody has responded yet so I'm going to.

It's not installing because of how the 3DS handles installing things. It won't just install older versions because you tell it to, only newer versions of installed titles or new titles. This is why removing it first works. (Think of it like this: Non-installed title is < a title of any version, even 0. And you can only install things with a higher version than before.)

Interesting.
So it is always better to first uninstall such title first and then install version 0 for better compatibility with DS Flashcards?

Anything new?

We've been keeping pretty quiet since most of what we've been up to has been mundane, or research/stuff that won't make it into release. You can see I've been logging lots of tidbits of info on 3dbrew recently. There was a lot of silly showoffiness when we announced this project, and we really want to avoid that now. It's a personal research project above all else, and it's fairest to everyone if we reflect that in our posting habits. There's nothing to gain from dickwaggling, as we were before. We'll still give relevant updates when exciting things happen, though!

If you want a super raw update, I did a ton of cleanup and tweaking in our earlier stages today. Our ARM9 stage is now 100% portable between all entrypoints without any knowledge of how that entrypoint is configured. Means we can port around with minimal effort, for that spider entrypoint I know everyone will end up wanting.
Also I redid a fair bit of our drawing code, and it's like 2.5x faster now. We can draw mad boxes.

What's left on your agenda before we get a maybe, kinda, possibly, we-are-not-worthy  1st release?

What about the homebrew launcher with kernel access, any news on that matter?

so, a 9.5 sysnand homebrew launcher is possible? 9.5.0-22?

It IS possible, anything is possible up to this point, probable within the next week/month/year/decade, However, is another question.
There's not much still viable after 9.3 patched some flaws with ninjhax, which IIRC, is some of the code they used for SPIDERHax
Don't quote me on the last sentence aside from 9.3 patching ninjhax, as my memory is a bit fuzzy on that terrain

From my understanding of the posts below, no work had been done on it. I think it's probably one of the last things they'll do, there's still a shit-tonne of work to be done before they look at homebrew launching.

The way we plan on doing homebrew may end up being 'KARL'-exclusive. Ideally we'll reimplement the HB service on a system level. How we do that will determine if it's Gateway-compatible or not. Honestly, we've been too busy with other groundwork'y things to think about it much. We'll tell as soon as we know for sure.

There's a lot to be implemented still. If we do release, it'll be once we implement a lot of ARM11 stuff including HB service integration, proper region patching, etc. Plus there's tons of cleanup and the like we'd also want to get in.

I'm wondering about what's more important than homebrew launching in term of features but I fail to see it...
