So a Nintendo rep came to my job a week or two ago to swap out the Fashion game cart for the Luigi's Mansion game cart on the demo 3DS XL. The thing is still piss old SM wise, though. We do finally have SM access though so I can collect all of the streetpass tags with it. However, being that it's old, it doesn't have any new boards. Since parental controls are activated, we're locked out of internet settings and can't connect to the store's Wifi.

So here's something I did realize. If I set up my phone as an N Zone hotspot (attwifi), it DOES connect, and upon opening N Zone, it asks to update, which it DOES attempt and begin to. It was at about 15% before timing out because I get shit signal in the back of the store to be using that as a Wifi hotspot. It did download the tile for Nintendo Video over Spotpass though, but no new Puzzleswap boards :(

My next step was to try Marcan's master key generator, but on both the demo unit and my personal system the codes it produced were invalid (if you didn't know, http://wii.marcansoft.com/parental.wsgi - well shit, that could be why, my phone didn't display the fact that this is for Wii)

Is there one (preferably web based, otherwise I need to teamviewer in to my desktop to use it) that works with the 3DS?

I'm pretty sure your 3DS has to be on a low enough FW for these programs to work, because Nintendo saw these programs and blocked them in the later FW versions. Not sure what version that is though mind you, I have a feeling that it's 7.x+ but I'm not certain.

For consoles on 7.x.x firmware or higher you can remove the parental controls here: https://parentalcontrols.nintendo.com/sys/3ds/

It does cost 50 cents, but it just takes a minute, so I use it fairly often. I'm pretty sure the serial number doesn't matter. It's fine if the serial number you enter doesn't match the console you're trying to unlock.

My cousin found a 3ds xl at a bargain price and we tried everything at the store to remove parental controls but to no avail.

We tested this method on my 3ds at home (which was also the same firmware as the one at the store) and it works no problem! Even paid the 50 cents with a visa gift card of all things!

Going back on monday to purchase the 3ds.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but there has been an advance in this so if anyone on 7.x+ needs their master key, go here.

Excuse me for acting like a noob and creating an account just to say this, but...
Thank you SOOOOO much for posting this! I thought I would just have to give up and call Nopetendo, but then I found your post! When I entered in the code that the generator gave me, I was bursting with joy because I couldn't believe it worked!

Thanks again

Thanks, all credits go to the SALT team, I've actually used this tool on like 8 3DSes for my friends who have over-protective parents. (They're all 13+...)
