Gaming Was this guy possibly cheating (Mario Kart 8)?

So I was playing around 15 or so matches with this guy online and every single one he came in first place, but what's odd is that his setup wasn't better than the rest plus if you'd want to know his nickname you couldn't because it's completely blank. So it'd be; That-Belgium-guy-with-26k-points.

There were times he was on 7-8th place but then moments later he went back to the 1st place, however, the rest of the time he'd have the 1st place locked since the get-go.

You could say that he was a better player but then again that also comes down to luck to not getting hit with an item. And also, it wasn't lag because my online matches don't have any. Pictures below.

I'm not here to complain that I should have been the first, it's not that, but the suspicion that That-Belgium-guy-with-26k-points was possibly playing using some kind of cheat or glitch. I just play for fun and try to be 1-5 place but this is disappointing and discouraging that there's people doing this kind of thing.

They're able to temp-ban cheaters in Smash Wii U but haven't read anything about Mario Kart 8.

If you think someones cheating, go to the replay system. Do full replay and watch his player to see his method of winning. $10 says he was snaking and taking really wide angles around every corner and side-drifting straights of the game to keep a constant boost. It requires staying in first and getting a bit of item luck but if you can carve out a lead asap with a fast accel car and easy drift its easy to stay in 1st (barring a blue shell)

You basically do this the whole race:

Iv thought people were cheating before because sometimes when i play, im a lock 2nd place and im not getting hit with any items but some players can stay ahead of me despite me thinking im taking the corners perfectly. Turns out there are methods of ways to manipulate the game to near-perfection. You dont often see it in game because the game of the way the game handles lag but you'll see it on the replays.

Its not like how it was on DS, you still need to like slide into the drift like you do on Wii/7/8 but you just purposely pick a car with good excell and easy drift and constantly go from left to right by keep getting mini-boosts. Trust me, its do'able, iv watched it happen and i can do it myself on time trials but im not good enough to do it consistantly online. Id wager money that its what was happening in OP's post. He should watch the full replay.

Yeah, Drifting Turbo Boosts now charge based on the time and extremity of the drift, making snaking a much more difficult process in every Mario Kart game since MKWii.

Now it's called "fire hopping", but yes, the method that was previously "snaking" is very much alive
