I wouldn't blame the consumers, I blame gateway for not uploading a detailed setup video, instead they rely on the community to make them, but most people don't think to check youtube, and when they do there wasn't any videos for until hours after the launch. IMO this release is a buggy mess, I could never recommend a gateway for n3ds ATM especially for the average gamer who isn't tech savvy.
IMO if you did this with a N3ds, forget the nand mod and just get a sky3ds, imo it's much better then buggy gateway 3.1. Sell your gateway for a profit locally, you can easily sell it for 100$ as people don't like to wait and 150$ if you set it up for them with games as the majority of gamers have no idea how to use a gateway and they don't care to learn. Then purchase a sky3ds for 70$, (what I paid) and your done.
You don't need gateway for homebrew anymore and if you are on firmware 9.2 or lower you can even get regiom free. So then eal benifit of gateway was the multi rom menu but the process to get gateway running on a n3ds is to slopy imo, and now the sky 3ds has becomes the cart that's faster and easier to use.
The only real downside of the sky3ds is the lack of eshop game support, like virtual console games but sky3ds is trying to find a fix with this. Sky3ds also works on any firmware version and with any 3ds console.
Anyone who recommends Gateway for the N3DS over sky3ds to friends who never hacked a thing in their life, then you are doing them a disfavour and will most likely brick/update their systemnand. When gateway was the only kid on the block, sure but now nope.
I don't like your analogy. I'm using my iPhone 4 since launch (>4 years) and it still does everything I want. I cannot say the same about those crappy Android-devices.But I do agree with you to some degree. For analogy sake, SKY3DS is the iPhone where GW is the Android. iPhone (SKY) is simple to understand for the average joe, Android (GW) is for those that want full functionality and customization of their device.

Sky3DS is more like one of these devices:Like running unsigned apps? I'm not looking for a phone flame war, but looking at the market many non-techie people choose iPhone over Android due to it's simplicity.
Sky3DS is more like one of these devices:
Avalynn can do NAND mods as well, just to name another.
From what I understood on Gateway's manual. If I have a backup of my System Nand, can't I use the Downgrade Console option to restore it if I accidentally updated it without any soldering skills etc??
I thought its easy as that or did I misunderstood the manual
You shouldn't post misleading statements like that, you know. It might make people get the wrong impression when and choose the wrong phone when buying it. That your iPhone does everything you want doesn't make Maximilious' point any less valid, as iPhones don't give the user filesystem access and don't support tethering, unsigned apps (as Maximilious said), or SD cards, meaning that you'll be out of luck after you run out of space.I don't like your analogy. yeah having to jailbreak a iphone to do everything you want is the same as using gateway to get the full functionality you desire, and just the same as gateway rely on the end users to stay on older FW versions and avoid updating etc, jailbroken iphone users are not the same as plain and simple iphone usersThat's strange I seem to be running unsigned apps just fine on my iPhone & iPad, got some great unsigned emulators running all at full speed inc mame/snes/megadrive. And as for the file system access I use an unsigned app called ifile, and teathering seems to be working ok here as well, want extra memory fine just use the memory card adaptor.. So the moral of the story is maybe you should do some research before you flame him for 'misleading' people, of cause my idevices are 'jailbroken' but then that's no different do what we are doing with our3ds's to play unsigned code is it?
Have a nice day.
you got it cheap and AT&T wanted to lock you into a contract with a bribe ....same stuff with the "free" gift.....you pay it back in the longrunAT&T gave me $200 for my iPhone 4 back in September when I purchased my 6 and that was after a 11 year old had it for 2 years and $200 is what I paid for it. Work that into your analogies. Lol.
It seems a lot of people get excited to see that the exploit works, as does the multi-rom menu when they first try this out, but are making the mistake of not actually formatting/creating the emuNAND partition....
1. Drag and drop the Gateway 3.1.0 ULTRA Launcher.dat file to your New 3DS’s internal microSD card, behind the back plate.Wait. So I use the OoT method for my N3DS with Gateway. I can boot into Gateway mode and use the multi-rom menu just fine. Should I have done something else (formatting/creating emuNAND partition)? I basically just followed the instructions on the Gateway website:
1. Drag and drop the Gateway 3.1.0 ULTRA Launcher.dat file to your New 3DS’s internal microSD card, behind the back plate.
2. Locate the savegame for “The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D” for your region in the Gateway 3.1.0 ULTRA release.
3. Restore the savegame to the game: you can either use a generic savegame dongle OR use our Gateway menu’s Restore savegame option with a original 3DS from a friend.
4. Boot up the New 3DS and launch the Zelda game.
5. Select the GATEWAY savegame and Link will be standing inside a tree hut.
6. Simply press A to load the Gateway menu.
You will be greeted with the Gateway menu, and from there you can insert the Gateway card and boot into Gateway mode.
I want to update my EmuNAND to 9.5. What measures should I take? So confused now
7. Make a nand backup by choosing Dump NAND from the gateway menu, turn off the console and insert the MicroSD into your computer and copy the NAND.BIN file somewhere safe, if your SD has eshop games/saves or pre-installed games like Majoras mask on it too, backup all the contents of the MicroSD (be sure to do step 9 if this is the case)
8.Repeat steps 4-6 this time select "FORMAT EMUNAND" wait for it to complete
9. (optional) turn the 3DS off and insert the SD card back into your computer, copy the SD contents back to the SD card (excluding the nand.bin file) do this before you turn on the 3DS again with the microSD in, if you have already done that delete everything from the SD except the launcher.dat file before copying the backup on or you may run into difficulties
10. Repeat steps 4-6, this time choose "gateway mode", from here proceed to system settings, check that it says GW3D instead of VER. on the system settings screen, then staying in system settings go to, Other setting> Update this will update emunand to 9.5
11. enjoy
basically that guide didnt include any of the Emunand setup steps
why those extra steps are importantThanks! And, what would happen if I didn't do those things? Also, I have the MMN3DS. Do you mean I have to make a copy of the MicroSD behind the backplate of the N3DS to make sure I have a legit copy?
