Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II set to launch digitally on Switch 2 today, unclear as to whether an upgrade path will be available

Announced today during the Octopath Traveler 8th Anniversary live stream, it's been confirmed that both the first game and its sequel will be launching on the Switch 2. Details remain sparse on exactly what these ports will feature, but going by Square Enix's other releases, we're likely looking at a bump to resolution and performance. It also remains to be seen whether any kind of upgrade path will be made available for the games, with this being something not at all common across the company's titles.

What we do know is that both games will be available exclusively via digital download later today. As soon as we know more, we'll be sure to update you.

To be fair it's not just Nintendo. Marvelous have used it for all of their games across both platforms as far as I know. SEGA did but only for Sonic Racing for some reason, then you have Trails in the Sky, Overcooked, Tamagotchi Plaza, and LolliPop Chainsaw to name a few off the top of my head.

Definitely not as many as could (or should honestly) be using it, but there are at least some out there.

Oh no others are using it. But I think Nintendo expected MOST developers to take this upgrade system. But most major developers actively avoid it and re-sell at full price.

They should at least offer a discount to the people who paid all this digital version of their game or something...It's really shameful...
And what about the people who just bought their game during summer sale or something and discover a few day later that they are stuck with the "maladjusted" version now!
I feel lucky I didn't bought any of them...

the switch 2 is mostly for suckers and fan boys imo. Stuff like this confirms that Nintendo is more focused on scamming customers rather than providing a entertaining experience that isnt exploiting the customer.

Backwards compatibility and the words they used when describing the Switch 2 upon launch have not really held up well and are full of gatcha's and things that seemed exciting aren't really exciting because Nintendo is paywalling basic things that they described as selling points in the launch of the Switch 2.

I was really excited and am still a fan of the original switch but don't think I will ever get a Switch 2 because of how corrupt Nintendo has become and how little they respect the customer anymore.

Fanboys and suckers don't really care if they are getting spit on they are still going to follow along with these abusive and exploitive policies. There really isn't much you can say to stand up for this type of exploitation imo.

not sure what kinda mind your working with but the jaded language tells me you don't know how to have a constructive conversation. maybe you shouldnt have replied if you cant maintain anything more than super low iq dialogue

I second that bait used to be believable. This is a square enix decision. Not a Nintendo one
