What if the 3DS was linked with a NNID, but was since removed via a system transfer? I'm assuming you wouldn't know for sure, but in theory, do you think it would work?

Not sure if this would make it easier or even solve it.
What if we have the Old3DS execute under Emunand and system-transferred it to another 3ds (new/old) Emunand, would the Old3DS Emunand become unlinked to the NNID?
Then we just need to use the unlinked Emunand to another system.

It's still linked to the console apparently, only system transfer and a call to Nintendo completely unlinks it and lets you move it to another console.

pretty sure i read that the NNID settings are stored in extdata...so i presume you could just copy that over with secure info it should be set to continue with the existing NNID tied to the original console ID

OK, so I've been playing around with my region changed N3DS, a few notes:
  • eShop is fairly finicky to get working (if you can get it working at all). Trying to go into the eShop "fresh" will tell you that you moved from another region and it'll try to go through the motions to get you in, but fails if you have a host 3DS serial ID which was linked to an NNID at one point. I haven't checked if you can simply download an update from eShop without an ID though, but probably not.

you probably need to strip out all the old regions system titles after you swap regions....probably somthing you guys can do manually, but dev menu by default doesnt allow the removal of system titles

i tried that a month or two ago (or whenever i made the PoC), it made no difference :(

a friend told me a way to get eshop working, he said it only works for jpn eur and usa, nor kor twn and chn.
i never tested it, i got a bit bored with region changing stuff when i saw that it seems i won't be able to get on kor eshop lol

USA eshop work + USA NNID=A SDSD card
USA eshop work+no NNID=B SDSD card(Bridge)
EUR no eshop+EUR NNID=C SDSD card

1.A card is properly identified ESHOP

2.In other B card, run eshop an error number 110

3.Shutdown

4.Run C card, run the eshop EUR
You can log in to work! ! !

Welp, making up this story for the Nintendo rep is going to be interesting. I already did a system transfer, but I still need the ID unlinked, because reasons.

Just say that you lost your linked one
Saying you lost it might lead to them blacklisting the SN but it depends on how you explain it and which employee you're speaking to. Some won't do it at all unless you specifically mention "stolen", and others might do it anyway.

gaaaayyyyyyy :(
I guess it never really unlinks via a transfer then, just a new NNID gets linked to the SN and overwrites the old one.

You could also say it broke beyond repair and won't turn on, and it's out of warranty, and that you just bought a New 3DS to replace it and want to transfer your NNID.

But if you need the donor SN unlinked and you're using it in the N3DS how would transferring it help? You'd need three 3DS units for that to work. Donor 3DS->transfer NNID to spare 3DS->replace N3DS' info with donor and link an NNID to it.

Unless I'm not getting something. (It happens to me a lot ;) )

NNID stuff is done server-side, even if you're using the serial on your N3DS it shouldn't affect anything unless they like, ban your console or something. No reason for three units though.

Okay, from what I understood you needed the donor's SN to be completely unlinked from an NNID.

No, you need a host 3DS which has never been linked to an NNID to extract the SecureInfo_A from, and transplant it into the N3DS.
If you are going to move the donor info to the N3DS how are you going to unlink it? I mentioned three units because you can't send the NNID to the out of region N3DS (afaik) and you can't transfer to the same console. That means a third unit is required to send the NNID to for the mean time.

You could also say it broke beyond repair and won't turn on, and it's out of warranty, and that you just bought a New 3DS to replace it and want to transfer your NNID.
Where is it being transferred to is what I'm getting at. Also why transfer? I mentioned telling them it "was left somewhere far and you don't care enough to get it" should be enough to have NoA unlink without need to transfer the NNID anywhere as long as you provide proof of ownership. (SN of "lost" system, confirm details of the NNID that's linked)

Like I said, If I'm missing something (and I likely am), let me know. I'd rather have the correct info than spread misinformation.

I think you're missing the point. You need your old 3DS's NNID unlinked completely from any 3DS console. You region change your N3DS before you try to relink it. And I doubt they check if both consoles have the same serial, so that isn't an issue as far as we know yet.

Alright, this makes much more sense now. For some reason I wasn't thinking about changing the region before relinking.
You'd think the SN being the same would be an issue, seeing as the call centre techs require both unit's SNs to directly transfer the NNID. I have never had them ask for only one SN unless I told them I haven't bought the replacement yet.

So basically, after region change we can't use the NNID on the new region again, but can create a new one for it even if the serial number of the donor 3DS still has that old NNID linked to it (meaning that a NNID once registered to eg. EUR console can only be used on EUR consoles). Am I getting it right?

From what I know, doesn't formatting a system while connected to the Internet unlink any NNID from that system? Couldn't you then simply format the donor system (in Emunand, for example, if necessary, with a backup to not actually lose data) to unlink the NNID from the serial without calling Nintendo before transferring over its SecureInfo_A/files to the region swapping system?

I dunno if we mentioned it before, but certain homebrew apps made with a certain lua player crash out to a black screen at the moment. Even with all services available to everything. Can anyone confirm that Big Red Menu and CHMM blackscreen on Gateway's CFW? I just want to be sure it's not on us. (*nudges Rinnegatamante too*)

The idea that this community has a group of developers who are as skilled as (perhaps more than) Gateway's team is incredibly exciting!
Gateway's devs are pretty talented, but they also more than likely buy all their exploits. That pretty much puts us on the same playing field, except they probably have more people working on their stuff.

huh well i guess most people can't even test out the guide i shared to get eshop working once you region change because most people don't know how to do it.
maybe region changing would be better to talk about my PoC region changing thread because there is already all the information there on how to do it.

probably best keep the region changing stuff as a "something you can do" rather than a highlighted feature..............i have a feeling we will see bricks if people attempt to try it without proper understanding of how it all works, wouldnt want karl3DS to get swamped with "i changed my region now i only get a black screen" "i no have eshop WHHHY!!!!" etc etc thread :P

I have a N3DS with sysnand 9.0 and want to play online with a retail cartridge. Will it be possible (with KARL3DS) to set up emunand, download the latest update from the eshop for the retail cartridge and play (and go online) with it in sysnand?

Sorry if it is a dumb question, don't really know much about this stuff.
