Garry's mod is a great game on the Pc, though would you like it if you could take It with you? Well, I have some idea's for that.

memory-saving idea's:

~For addon's you can make the "NPC's" 2d instead of 3d (Like doom, and it would save a LOT of memory!)
~For the map's, add low-resolution textures(like doom "again"...)!
~Use something like FPSMAKER to make map's.
~And add an "addon's" folder to the program to drag and drop addon's.

Need help? :

I don't know how to program good enough to help make the program, but I CAN make simple textures for HUD or built-in map's.

I will see you later!

Last I checked, Garry's Mod is a PC game, not a DS game... Garry's Mod is just WAY too advanced for the DS, but if you make it, I will tip my fedora in respect... Good luck though...

EDIT: Try making it for the 3DS instead... You'll have more luck developing on this platform...

I'm not the one programming it, It was just an idea;).
And I am pretty sure that smealum can pull it off! (by modifying FPSMAKER)
And yes, It will be VERY complex! But It might happen!
Yes, I know RAM will be a problem, But smea can pull off ANYTHING that has to do with porting PC games to the NDS  .

Here is a sketchy design for Garry's mod ds:

If you like the design, please reply!

Ok, I made a (better) sketch!
Gmod_ds_screen_2.png

I added better HUD look's, a camera pad(like dscraft) and you can see steve from minecraft jmping down there.
So, that's what I would like to see for Gmods! :grog:

Its possible
No, it's not possible. It's not possible to port the Source engine to the DS, let alone Garry's Mod. You can make something like Garry's Mod, but you can't port Garry's Mod, there's a big difference. The physics engine alone would have to be make-shift and with the pitiful amount of RAM/VRAM offered don't expect too many objects on-screen at the same time. I suppose the best starting point for this would be smealum's PortalDS game. I'd also like to point out that Gmod is not a "game", games have gameplay and objectives, Gmod does not.

I'm sure something similar is possible. It would require many efficient rendering techniques to get something usable worth playing, but if there were enough time and skill put into it, it is definitely possible.

And remember, let's not get off topic here. This is about a concept for a DS homebrew, whether or not it is a game or application.

It's not gonna be in source, it will be made on the FPSMAKER engine, and im not the one making it. I am hoping that smea will do it.

i don't agree with this :C
a sandbox is also a game...
from your logic, if i am not doing missions on gta, (on free roaming shooting people or driving a car for no reason) i am not playing a game?

what do you define gameplay?

A game requires an objective, Gmod has no objective, it's a real-time level editor. Sandbox can be an element of a game or a specific approach towards design, but it's not a game in and out of itself. To draw a parallel to real life, children play in sandboxes all the time, but they're not playing "games", not until they impose certain rules for the activity. GTA or inFamous are sandbox-based games, they feature an open world, but unlike Gmod they have gameplay - a set of rules and objectives. A piece of software can be called a "game" only if it follows the criteria of a game. By definition, a game is a set of rules you follow on your way to a certain goal for amusement. For instance, a racing game presents you with racing mechanics and the objective is to reach the goal from the starting point, preferably before other racers. Another good way to define whether something is a game is to determine whether there is an end-state to the activity. By definition, a game can be won or lost - if there is no end-state, there is no game. For instance, in Minecraft you can die - you are penalized for your lack of skill at playing the game. In The Sims, a game furthest from the definition of a game proper, your Sims can die if you don't take proper care of them. None of this applies to Gmod - you can't win or lose at it, therefor it's not a game. There's a lot of "non-games" that are called "games" these days, Gmod is just one of them.

Billions of people have ideas. idea's are usless its the few people who come up with ideas and do something with it are the unique ones. my point being dont post shit and be like
"hey im god i want (insert imposible task here) its such a great idea and you could totaly do it with ram. I gave you idea so make me apart of it and not only make it but cater it to my whim while leting me test it along the way. i will contribute sketchy drawings so you feal like you have a purpose in life"

And yet he has a point.
It's all well and good to have an idea, but if you don't have anything to offer in making it happen then all it will ever be is an idea.
Mocking something up in Paint to show what it maybe might look like is all well and good, but in the long run it really doesn't get much of the job done. Especially not in something as complex as this is sure to be.
I just can't see this getting very far without either you taking the initiative to learn more about programming,
or enticing a programmer to work for you....probably with money.

What's up, I'll try to see how can I run python code in a ds and if it's possible to import a module, If I do it successfully, expect the game 20% done(the sprites and how mods would work), it's a bit easy to make a simple physics engine, by checking if an object is in the same area as another object, their velocities turn negative (ex: both have velocity of X: 10, when "colliding" their velocity of X:10 turns into X:-10), that's how a simple physics engine works, also I think I'll make each sprite of an NPC have body parts to make ragdolls possible, cya in the future

Well well well

I and haloguy could work on the game, I make the code required, and he/she makes the sprites and map textures, and we'll both work on the maps
