This has been asked a bit so i thought id make a thread for you, The firmware you want to install and use is 3.18. If you are running a firmware lower then this you are in luck and and can achieve this by following my instructions.

On 3.18 you can install eCFW which lets you install FTP for easy file transfers, PS1 and PSP roms with perfect emulation.. all the old school emus and more.

You will need,

Internet access
a Vita on 3.18 firmware or lower
PC
PS3 (on official firmware and has access to PSN, a CFW will only work if you can access PSN)
Few credits on PSN to buy an exploit game or 2.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

here is what you need to do:

- Go here http://zload.net/v2/archives/file/?id=2417593 and download the openCMA patch, now on your pc right click on the CMA tool in the bottom right corner and close it, or just goto task manager and shut it.
- Goto program files folder on the C:/ and find the sony cma folder, open the folder and get the patch for openCMA you downloaded and extract it all in there and write over anything it asks to do.
- Right hand click on the BAT file now in there and press run as administrator, this will patch CMA so you can use it offline meaning no asking to update
- Now is your vita activated with your PSN account? if yes go to the next step... if no.. go to settings on the vita and go to format and format the device, it will restart and all you need to do is follow the steps and log into the internet when asked and log into your PSN account (this is the only time you can activate your vita on an old firmware) and watch the intro video.
- Goto settings and put the vita into planemode and make sure wifi is switched off, RESTART the vita by holding the power button and pressing switch off, then when its off switch it on again.
- Next plug the vita into the PC and load the cma app on the vita screen, when you have pressed it, unplug the cable from the PC end and you will get an error screen pop up on your vita (LEAVE THIS ERROR SCREEN ALONE)
- Now take the cable and plug it into the ps3 (PS3 AND VITA MUST BE ON THE SAME ACCOUNT) and it will connect and the error will go leaving you with options to access the PS3 from the vita screen, go in and select the exploited game you already bought and downloaded and left in BUBBLE form on the PS3
- Send it over and then plug the cable back into the PC
- Go here http://zload.net/v2/archives/vita/ and find the TN-V exploit save file for the game you bought, make sure you find the 3.18 exploits as this is what you need even with 3.20...
- Extract the file you downloaded and navagate to my documents>PS VITA>PSAVEDATA>uygthg487236487(random chars)werhvb> ____this is where you need to extract that file to so it has its own folder that contains the exploit and other files like ULES5064 for example.
- Next download the psp FW 6.60 here http://zload.net/v2/archives/file/?id=2417922 and rename it 660.PBP and place this into the folder with the exploit files, (Make sure that file extensions on your pc is switched on so you can make sure the .PBP is all in upper case 660.PBP.
- Goto your vita which is wired into the pc and goto the CMA app on the vita
- Navigate to the pc/save folder and move the new files over
- Back out when done and load the exploit game up and trigger it, most times its holding the L or R bumper (i cant remember which) when loading the save up in the game or on the games splash screen as each exploit triggers differently to get to the install screen, you will only need to do this once, after that just trigger the exploit and you will go strait into epsp menu.
- You will get a black screen and some text, press down until you get to Advanced> then when that loads press Install, once its done back out and it will load you into the ePSP menus

from here you can look at installing roms/FTP apps for example and study how it works.

if you did this correct you should be able to go to this menu from the trigger exploit game any time you wish. Here is the lost of exploit games available to the public
http://www.zload.net/bilder/PSVita/VitaExploitChart.png

at the bottom you will see the PS1 Loaders, this will work the same as the epsp exploits but will let you load directly into a menu to play PS1 Roms perfectly and way better then the ePSP part can, no slow downs etc..

id grab 1 ps1 loader and 1 normal exploit, i've written all this off the top of my head so if i missed something cut me some slack

IF Zload is down you can host the files yourself on your own server to achieve the same result, its just being used a a file storage... doesn't do anything special.

Do official PSN PSOne Classics play better on the PS1 loader or is it just meant for PSX to Eboot converts?

Thanks for this guide! Too bad I don't have a PS3 system >.< I was hoping to play some old psp games on the psp vita too.
Ditto. OOC saving myself a bit of digging are there any retail cart based exploits? or are they purely PSN store based?

I've got my vita parked on 3.15, and while I see that 3.36 is hackable all of the store games that trigger it are removed -> useless.

I'm really only interested in PSP/psx hacking so...

retail games that I actually own:
Demon Gaze
Persona 4 Golden
Sorcerery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God (hey! I like curry, but o.w. the game is utter shit even for a roguelike BTW WTF did they get that curry is messy to eat?! WTF?! It's not like ribs or some crap unless yer a slob...)

Store games:
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite(really my favorite :O)
The Walking Dead

...and yep just checked it, that's it. Not many games interesting to me available for vita or older psp/psx games available via store although I have an fsckton of psx game disks(most of the rpgs and strat games plus a few more typical actiony consoley games).

get a ps3, buy one of the psp games which is exploitable for your firmware or manually update the vitas firmware to one you wish to have, 3.18 being the favourite and install the exploit.

Alright,

So, I have 3.01 FW on my PS Vita. Are you saying I should update this to 3.18 first? I've got a PS3 and I can purchase whatever game I need to, but just wondered whats the best scenario for me here?

3.18 is the latest firmware that can do everything that has been released up to now,
3.01 is very similar to the 3.18.. only thing different is the ps1 loader exploit games (sports superbike 2/tekken2 - go with sports superbike as its WAY better to use) dont run PS1 iso/eboots with pretty much 100% compatabilty like 3.18 does.

if i were you id get 3.18 then buy a ps1 loader (sports superbike 2) and a psp exploit (id go with go!sudoku) so you can install TN-V (based on the psp firmware) which lets you run PSP isos and all the old emulators.

- PS3 will need a PSN logged into it with your PSN on your vita so must be on official firmware and up todate with internet connection, they must match... easy to login on on PS3, next download the exploit game on the ps3 and leave it in the bubble form, dont install it (will shows icon in games list with a white bubble around it)

- Exploit games never get patched, sony removes them, takes the vita firmware and patches that so the games cant use exploit anymore... they update firmware and send it out and then after a few weeks bring back the exploit game to the store to download but that wont affect us because we can use openCMA/ps3 trick to send across to the vita without updating.

- PSN has to be the same on both devices, i have a EU, US and JAP account on my ps3 :)

Great tut man. I was thinking of getting a Vita finally but didn't want to buy 1 if the scene will die soon. BTW I was also going 2 get one for my work. I was going to hack it but I want to make sure I can still go on the PSN store since I'll need to do it for work.

EDIT: by the way what is the exploit game I need to get. I dont have a PS3 so Im hoping I can find it another way (unless its 1 of the games I have on my vita memory cards) & somehow bypass that step if I could.

Brand new Vita TV user xD
Does this guide also work with PlayStation TV systems? I'm comparing this guide with this one http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=40302 and most of the steps are alike with only a few differences. The activating PSN account on first boot is new to me though, ill be doing that first before I attempt anything haha.

Thanks for the guide.
I have Vita with 3.15 firmware and I am little confused. If I want to update 3.18 do I need to update manually before this guide?
I tried to understand do I need to use program like "PS3.ProxyServer.GUI" to update Vita first before this guide or do I get the 3.18 update if I buy exploited 3.18 game on my PS3 and transfer that to my Vita?
