I have one question.

Let's just say that the CSND access in the N3DS is different to that of the Original 3DS, when sound compatible homebrews for the N3DS start appearing, would there be 2 different file formats for each homebrew? Or will they simply add the CSND N3DS code to the already existing GIT and compile with it?
APT has a function which lets you check if the 3DS is a New 3DS or an old one, so it would be possible to do it entirely from code. I doubt it's any different though, I don't recall there being a separate module for N3DS CSND.

Oh ok then.
So APT checks whatever hardware you might have, then it jumps to that particular part to enable all the N3DS' code. (An IF I guess)

Yes, that's correct. I actually used this to get the different pointers in bootstrap right now, and it works fairly well (as long as your 3DS is at 8.1 or above).

Great!
Although I was getting a little bit ahead of myself, think of maybe some .N3DS files. XD

Probably a weird question;
If this project does (or even does not) reach it's end goal, and IF you do release source (not saying you are, or should, but it'd be cool to read through), how high would the chance be (again, assuming you would open-source) to get a bunch of "this was us doing the bootstrap testing, here are the files from February", "this is the region free testing, here are the files from June".
ie: the source from various stages of this build to see how it grew.
This is probably achievable via GIT or SVN (or whatever you guys are using), but was really curious about how you progressed and whatever oversights may have remained in the code for some time before a eureka moment.
It's probably just me.
Again, you don't have to confirm or deny anything

I just wrote out a massive tutorial for getting into the 3ds homebrew development and exploiting scene, and then realised it was a little off topic. I'll make a new thread and link it here.
I too am waiting for this (:

The source from beginning to know is on my GitHub already, so if you want to see that much progress I guess you could. The tentative plan for now is to get a basic ARM11 and ARM9 loader going, and from there the rest of the FIRM stuff will definitely be closed source though. We will, however, try to be somewhat transparent during the development of it.

Darn mobile, pressed submit too early.

what is the reason for the firm patch stuff being closed source? (honestly curious, not trying to debate etc, i don't mind what it is) - wouldn't it be cool to have it all open source and have an open source cfw thing?

In a nutshell, we all ended up on agreeing to it because we would rather this project stay to it's original goals rather than becoming the base for a warez loader.

Shame warez has to get in the way yet again, meaning if anyone else wants to do something similar they have to redo a good amount of the work. But regardless, good to see something real coming from this! Wasn't expecting much from the original post, but you've already made great progress :D

Although I can appreciate and respect this, I'm not certain I get the point of it, when there's already numerous other ways to load pirate games (flash carts, cfw, etc). Either way, good luck on the project, it seems promising.

I don't know how much I'm going to be able to help here. Ninjhax does not like 6.3 via emuNAND at all. Even getting it to run is a half and half sort of deal. When I do get to the Homebrew launcher it tells me there is no homebrew on my SD, despite the fact that the exact same files and directory structure works elsewhere. I can launch the bootstrap.3dxs by renaming it boot.3dsx and replacing Smea's loader (although that launches w/ more consistency than the HBL). I only get "deadbeef" after uncountable tries.

I'm pretty sure I had Ninjhax running just fine on 9.2 emuNAND, but I don't want to check right now I have a guest... A guest that would really like me to stop dicking w/ my 3DS and posting on GBAtemp. :-)

I can try 7.1 later I guess, but I'm kind of saddened that I could not produce more positive results from this go.

*brace for impact*

good luck anyways, and hopefully you don't get too much crying about that
Yeah, it was going to have to be said at one point, so minus well get it out and over with. We already stated that we have no interest in making this into a piracy loader, and the problem is that if it was entirely open it would be extremely easy to get it into a state able to pirate, given the person doing it had the know-how. And since the N3DS is so early in it's life, it's best to at least have it live a while before the inevitable PSP-esque total piracy methods. And, again, we don't want this to be associated at all with a warez loader which could be potentially based on what we make.

Edit: I should also add that this was a pretty difficult decision for me to make on my personal beliefs on open source. I initially wanted something completely open, but the more I dug into it the more I realized that we might have to keep it closed just this once for the greater good.
