I don't advice you to do this, it's vert dangerous and there are lot of chances you brick your 3ds, so wait the next GW update

Someone in a French forum had the same problem as you, he tried to turn off his 3DS just before this error appears, then he turned it on, he launched the exploit and he launched the downgrade process then it worked.

Make a Offline Update whit SSB to 8.1

Then reformat your memory card on the PC , and your 3DS ( without memory card) Start the Gateway launcher.
Make a new Nandbackup and then try again to downgrade .

Would this definitely work?

I was on 6.2, that didn't work so I got a Pokemon Alpha and updated it to 7.2. Also didn't work.

Another note, I don't think I've ever online updated. Maybe to 3.0 or something?

I tried helping someone with the same issue to no avail.
What's interesting to note is that he only updated using game cards.
I haven't heard of anyone that got this issue by doing network updates.
So it's probably an unsupported version as of now and your best bet is to contact gateway about this issue and hope they add support for it, which I'm sure they will :)

The Problem with Gateway is, that they sent you to the maxconsole forum. They dont answer support questions, as stated on their website.

So me and a lot of other people a screwed up.

I updated my old 3DS EUR version from 6.1 to 7.1 and then to 8.1 using smash this console never got online, i have all NAND files and can switch from them using restore nand after downgrade fail.

This is really sad. I hope someone is lucky enough to find a solution.

I spent the whole day yesterday to figure it out. But nothing always fatal error.

Tried all launcher.dat tried different methods for the payload server, I even downloaded the gateway.dg from different mirrors.

But still Fatal Error.... So it MUST has something to do with the console getting an online update.

There isnt any way spoofing the Nintendo servers to get a online Update like 8.2? or even 9.X would do it

I think that only 3DS which have their firmware updated by a game cartridge, can't downgrade...

So only never-updated and wifi-updated 3DS can be downgraded...

Are you able to update via network location? using a home proxy server and a know working FW Version? (NOT VIA INTERNET!!)

If its the cart update which is unknown to GW then surely upgrading it yourself via proxy should work??

No one has figured out how to do this yet AFAIK. The update is probably encrypted so it's not that easy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gateway requires you to use a Red Card to downgrade in the latest version, try it with an older update.
