I maybe do not understand, but why not adapt scripts (the same ones, of course) from the PSX version? As I understand, all tools to hack already there, so should be possible to do at least what was translated for PSX. Did I missed something?

From what I have read about these remakes for the PSP. They gave the story a huge overhaul in terms of scenario, so using the PSX script would not work very well due to the massive changes to the game.

Really? Just as I heard, they just added 1 new scenario.

There is a new scenario starring Tatsuya and featuring a woman with long purple hair and a cat named Zula. Satomi Tadashi (Scenario writer of Persona and Persona 2) states that the new scenario will change everything the player knows about fighting Shadows and "won't be pretty", suggesting that it will be very dark.

So I supposed 90% of the script was same...

Hi,
Let me start by saying, I'm not a big fan of the PSX translation. There are some janky bits that came out of mid-90's styles, and there are a handful of mistakes. There are also spots where I don't think the original Japanese was interpreted in the way I'd have done so -- which is fine, Japanese translations vary widely -- but it's not my work.

To use that translation, we'd have to wrangle that plaintext into the proper format for insertion: finding the right textboxes by comparing the Japanese to the English, then adding back control codes by again comparing the Japanese to the English, then once again (once if we're lucky) going over the whole thing with a comb to edit all the janky bits, as well as anything that broke while inserting the plaintext. And on the side, we'd still be translating the extra scenario from the Japanese and doing any other necessary hackwork to make that happen.

In comparison, the Japanese text needs no wrangling at all. All that needs to be done to it is translation work, some hacks to make text easier to work with, and some manual touches here and there for memory. It's a relatively simple process with a well-understood workflow, and it results in a product with a consistent translation throughout.

It's hard to compare the amounts of work involved with either, but they're similar, perhaps even favouring translation by a small margin. So it makes more sense to just translate the whole.

All of that said -- the translation isn't ongoing at the moment. I'm working 100% on another project, which I had hoped to be done with by 2014. Hopefully that won't go for too much longer, as I would like to get EPP properly underway this year.

There's also a question of whether we'll need to. Tradukosoft seems to be trucking along on it. They haven't contacted me about any of my toolset, and to my knowledge they haven't contacted xyz about his hacks either, although they know we're here. That's a ton of work to retread, and in fact last month they released an update on Facebook saying "we are now working on decrypting the game's files," which means I don't think I should expect their email any time soon. :ha: Perhaps they want to keep it "in-house", so to speak, as I know they want Tradukosoft to gain legs in the industry, and that's understandable.

If Tradukosoft hasn't made headway soon, I'll contact them and see what's going on. I know they have three ongoing projects right now, so P2 is probably not at the top of their list.

If do translation via P2 PSX script - this do not need translator at all, only hacker. This is what I was planning to tell in my post, nothing else. I completely understand that you have first translate thing to english (at least via machine translation) and then compare to what is in english to decide if it is correct text string. So, if you have a translator, who is working whole time on P2 - agreed, no point in even adapting P2 PSX script. But, as I see there is issues... So, obv, seems easier to do adaptation of PSX and the new scenario would translated later.

Anyway, I saw what thexyz have on his wiki, and I see that it is enough to complete at least migration from PSX to PSP. I do not know what exactly prevent you from doing this (apart that PSX is not accurate), anyway any progress is better than stagnation, this is what I think...

That said, if there would be no progress till middle of 2015, I would myself try to do migration to the PSP (I cannot tell that for 100%, all all could be very different in half of the year, so do not quote me anywhere please). And it would be the PSX script. If someone is against it, contact me in PM. As it really looks like that everyone here is praying for Tradukosoft, while I never saw any patch for P2 released by them...

they want to use the psx script for p2epp and just translate the extra stuff (i would prefer it this way too)

i hope they´ll finish them since i like their taste ^^ but i believe this will not happen in the near future :/

I know the guys behind that team, trust me, it's not gonna happen. As much as I want a P2P patch, I know they are not gonna do it. That's why I'm rooting for this thread, it's the only real chance I see on the internet.

Cool! I love that you used this string, since that way Edgeworth is in the screenshot.

Anyway, it's great to see people putting xyz's stuff into practice. I know he's chomping at the bit to get going on the translation project. We're talking about starting things up again soon.

thexyz actually hacked it all already half a year ago... Even with proportional font :) http://bbq.xyz.is/Persona_2:_Batsu This why I told that there absolutely no problem to put the PSX translation there (apart legal issues).

Hey is there any way we could take out the random battles which m
Occur every 4 seconds whilst playing
Man I really want to play this yet that feature really makes me despise this game.

Nothing is impossible (not telling that I am able to do it though)... But I doubt that without these random battles you would be able to beat the game, as you would have no place to level-up...

Leveling up can be done through cheats.
I only care about the story.
