There was some talk about updating a game in Emunand and that shouldnt do it with the Launch Update and instead you should update via eShop because it will update your sysnand.. is that true? I dont want to make a mistake.

Also, when I get my new micro sd cards for the n3ds, when I upgrade the card i just have to put all the files in that card to the new one right? since i dont have any emunand on there YET.. I could just simply copy the files over? Thanks..

I don't think emunand is possible with the N3DS currently...

I don't remember any talk about what you're talking about, but I'm relatively new here, so take a second opinion before doing anything.

there was a possible glitch with the initial gateway launcher.dat that may or may not of caused the issue. you should be fine since it's been updated(the occasion only happened once as far as I know and it easily could have been user error trying to blame gateway.)

and for the SD cards, we don't really know yet all of the specifics. all we can do is assume

I just mean if im on emunand on an old 3ds and it needs an update.. like Mario Kart... and you launch the game.. it may give an option... Y to update and A to just play the game... is it safe to update there or is it better to update through eshop?

Surprised nobody gave a straight answer yet. YES You can update games this way by pressing y to enter eshop. Just don't do this if 1. you're not on the latest firmware or 2. You have DLC or themes installed and you don't want to lose them.

I updated several games through eshop. You could even search "Updates" in eshop and find all the game updates.
If you wanted to do it without eshop, you could install update cia files for your games.

nand's are locked to systems

nand's are to be injected into new sd cards not copied with simple windows explorer

legit content can be copied, but will not be accessible unless you do a system transfer

Pick whichever you meant.

Ok, lets just say, hey, I have this fresh n3ds... i turned it on, went through the menus...played a few games...(didnt install anything..) then I think... I need a bigger SD card...

Can I just copy the stuff over using Windows?

No. You need to format an emunand in gateway menu. Then inject your old emunand into the new one using emunand tool. Then copy over the folders using windows or whatever.

See usage details in the emunand tool support thread.

I think so. Except a 64Gb SD card will come formatted as exFAT and the SD reader cannot read that format so you must use windows to format as FAT32. This is a case where SD formatter cannot be used.
