This is good news, now anyone who hasn't got into the 3ds scene or wants to get the new 3ds/xl or any other versions is safe to do so and ready to get on the Gateway train :D

2015 will be the year of the 3DS, now just think of all those games people can backup in case something happens to their retail copy
People won't have to worry about retail copies or saved data ever again *wink wink* ;)

Great news. I wonder how hard launch N3DS's will be once preorders are taken care of. I'd preorder one anyways if you maybe plan on getting one.

Sucks if you still want the regular size with faceplates. Only way to ensure you get one that works with GW is to import one if your in the US since even if they release it in the US it'll likely be above 9.2.

US: New 3DSXL only
Japan: New 3DS only
Europe: New 3DS and 3DS XL

I can understand that America likes the bigger models but I'm sure sales of standard were decent in U.S cannot believe they discontinued it there, I believe its in Europe but yeh, Americans can't really get those :(

For once im kinda glad I live in europe, atleast you all get those Majoras mask and MH4 versions of the new 3ds xl, I think they're out of stock at the moment though or I may have got one from Australia

Huh, Japan has the XL, it's just called the LL. In fact reports indicate the XL is outselling the regular N3DS 2:1 in Japan. If they decided to not release the regular N3DS here the sales of the old XL must have dwarfed the old 3DS by quite a bit.

It's only the US that did not get the regular N3DS.

Yeh, just checked nintendo japan, for some reason they feel 1 of their biggest consumer bases will not like the standard verison of their newest system which is still selling well in nearly all the countries!
Poor U.S, I love nintendo but I don't get the decision making here:hateit:

I see, Its pretty much almost guaranteed now that the new 3DS in europe will be 9.0 but I think it's still safer that I got one coming in a few days as opposed to picking 1 up in a month

The monster hunter one also looks better than the Majoras Mask one but I really wish it came out here too :P

What do you mean the UK didnt get the Zelda system? They released the video of the thing but its not actually releasing there?

Thanks for the heads up veign,

the game also comes pre-installed in UK apparently
US: Can choose to get the new majoras mask edition with game physical or installed on system

If someone were to use Gateway could they keep that preinstalled copy somehow?

Yeah, no problem...Nintendo UK also had the bundle that actually came with the US statue. It has been on their website for sale since the Nintendo direct happened, so I am not sure where the UK isnt getting it came from. Its sold out now but I believe all regions get the console.

http://store.nintendo.co.uk/new-nin...-3ds-xl-majoras-mask-3d-edition/11070029.html

It was in stock there much longer than it was at any online store here in the US. I only knew the UK got it b/c people on a US forum I use was bitching about how it sold out so fast but the UK got the bundle with the figure and it was in stock longer lol.

But it's not that well compared to the XL. These are Japan sales.

According to media crate:
New Nintendo 3DS sales:Tot. sales: 423,870
New Nintendo 3DS XL sales:Tot. sales: 973,952

That ratio might be even larger in the US between the old XL and 3DS (maybe 3 or 4:1 for all we know). Nintendo is likely thinking the US will also show that large skewed ratio in favor of the N3DS XL and believe that those who want a regular N3DS will buy the XL anyways since it's all that they can buy.

How many Americans will want a N3DS, but scoff at the notion of buying an XL to the point where they don't buy the N3DS and then also don't give Nintendo a sale via importing? I have to bet that number has to be pretty low in Nintendo's estimates.

Hasn't Nintendo also been phasing out the old 3DS and only shipping more 3DS XL stock as well in the US?

Yep, I rarely look but I dont remember the last time I saw a regular 3DS. I think the last one I probably saw was the 4.4 console I got on clearance at a Radio Shack. I looked occasionally before I got a 4.5 console and could only find 2DS and XLs. I have seen a few people complain and say they werent getting and XL. I imported the white N3DS and was going to wait on a Zelda N3DS XL before I bought one in the states, but then the Zelda system ended up being a launch system. :)

I think Nintendo now considers the 2DS to have replaced the standard size in America. Japan doesn't have the 2DS, which is probably why they made a regular size New in the first place. (And Europe has both standard New and 2DS, right?, so I dunno what that means).

Some people are expecting NOA to later come out with regular New later, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't wind up with a New 2DS instead.
PLEASE DON'T THINK THIS IS A FACT, I ONLY AM SPECULATING ON THIS. IT'S NOT EVEN A RUMOR

From neogaf:

So it must have been 9.0. So yeah, 9.0 in AUS, EU and now murica confirmed. get hype.

Not quite, he only said he updated to the latest version ( the one that introduced theme shuffling ). But that doesnt mean he wasnt on 9.3 when he got the unit, unless he specifically remembers that there was no theme shuffling feature.

Don't get your hopes up, the key words here are review units.

This is not "confirmation" that the units shipped to retailers will be on 9.0-9.2.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but the fact is this isn't solid evidence.

The review units are the actual retail units which were released to a lucky few for a review.

yeah but its still a small element of "maybe" they where made earlier, or taken from the very first batch and half way though production they switched to 9.4 or whatever.....there is still a chance launch units could be a mixed bag of 9.0-9.2 and 9.3-9.4

but as an early indicator, its looking good

Hmm... With this in mind I can't decide if I want to sell my Pokemon X/Y 3DS XL when my Majora's Mask New 3DS XL comes in, or keep it as a gateway system, and keep the New 3DS XL updated at all times.

I plan on keeping some physical games, and some of them I would like to play online. To play my physical games online, I would need to stay updated with the latest firmware.

Idk...

If I can't play monster hunter ultimate then I'll be going legit again gateway is frustrating at most both exploits although easy are the extra syep that annoys me not to mention booting up and quickly disabling WiFi, so far the only thing I've used it for is to obtain emunand 9.4 so I could play the mh4 demo. I have the good legit carts. I think I seriously have outgrown piracy...

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
