Congradulations. You are now a little smarter.

so this guy in the past used his ds flash card to install that file or what ever it was forgot he did and and then started thinking he was getting it to boot with out any thing other then the 3ds sd card. Will that sucks. :( hell i may end up just buying a gateway but with my luck when i do then there will be a workaround.

I now know the hold L think is not working for me and I know its because i do not have a ds flash card. so did i wast all of my time here? am I not able to run the 4.5 cfw with out a flash card?

Correct. Unless you are some sort of super hacker and find an exploit to use with the CFW launcher. At the moment Gateway's is locked to the Gateway launcher and Smea's region-free thing. The CFW launcher requires the DS profile exploit. Which in order to launch that (the "hold L thing") you need a DS flash card to install it.

Yup. The "hold l" thing is the DS Profile exploit. Which you need to install with a DS flash card. Once that's done, you can boot it without the card. You could wait and see what's up with the 9.2 cfw, which might launch using a method that doesn't need a ds flash card. But who knows at this point...

I'm gonna give it a mouth or 2 because thats about how long its gonna take for me to save up for the gateway and a 128gb msd card and 32gb 3ds sd card.

So, I can't play newer ROMS with the CFW? I am planning to play "undubbed" games using CFW.. Kinda hate english VAs and also I am currently learning Japanese.. I want to be able to fully understand how Japanese sentences are constructed and at the same time, have fun while playing.

I am planning to download Persona Q Undubbed, I know it's a >7.x game..

Since my CFW doesn't go to internet because it freezes 10 seconds after starting, i went to the browser and connect to the internet. As I closed the internetexplorer, a window appears:
An update was downloaded.Do you want to install it?
I turned my 3ds off.
Will that download nag disapear if I run Gateway mode(with flashcard)?

Format the emunand (or restore from a backup) and then use this

While trying to install cfw when i go into the software management it says "There is no accessible software data", i added the dbs folder with the title.db and also tried import.db but it still shows the same thing, any ideas?

Also you never say what to do with the rednand file after you inject the nand, im assuming it just goes to the root of the sd card?

Thanks.

You inject the rednand to the sd card, afterwards you can keep it as a backup

Alright, i think i can get into the cfw now but when i run the prompt with the devmenu and ip it didnt return a return code of 0, i'm guessing this is caused because it won't let me reset my software management info for some reason, any ideas why that isn't working?

Thanks

Edit, figured this part out but now i am having trouble connecting like quite a few other people, for those who got it working after having issues what did you end up doing to fix it?

  1. Run the emuNand tool you downloaded earlier and press “Extract emuNand”. Save the file as emuNand.bin somewhere.
  2. Now, drag the emuNand.bin onto the bat file that was downloaded. After a while, a resulting REDNAND.bin will appear.
  3. In the emuNand tool, press “Inject NAND into emuNAND”. Select the REDNAND.bin file, and just ignore the warnings about not finding NAND.bin
I guess it's my turn to be the noob, since I've been trying to figure this out all last night... I already managed to install the CFW on a smaller MicroSD which I popped into my windows desktop to do these steps. But I recently dug out a 32GB regular SD card I'd like to use. Naturally my Windows Machine doesn't have an SD reader, so I'm stuck doing the process entirely on my mac (being unable to swap over for these few steps).

So my question stands. What's the Mac/Linux equivalent of these steps? I know you can backup/restore the NAND using 'dd', but there seems to be a few ways to do it, and they aren't all equivalent to the emunand tool.

On top of that, the batch file doesn't seem to run perfectly in wine's cmd. So I was wondering what the process would be for extracting/modifying/injecting the CFW on a non-windows machine.

I already tried to take my existing CFW and restore it as I would a regular NAND, but it seems to overwrite my fat partition to the 1gb I was stuck with earlier. I think it might have something to do with the MBR being copied over, but I'm not sure (I'm not all that familiar with Mac/Linux, as I just switched over), which is why It's copying the 2gbs total. Mac doesn't seem to want to resize the 1gb fat partition. Which means I'm stuck with recreating the CFW from my 32gb backup.

Anyone have any ideas how I'd go about this? I really don't want to have to create an img to transfer over to my windows PC. And the rest of the steps work fine in non-windows, so it'd be nice to have a complete guide/walkthrough for other systems.

Thanks.
