Another question for the pros.. My 4gb sd in my 3ds.. (yanno the one it comes with) Would it be big enough if i ONLY use it for save data? (and of course launcher.dat) Im not sure where updates for my roms and dlc get loaded to, so maybe some of that as well if it goes to sd. No cia's tho.

Maybe I should pick up a 32gb tomorrow.

Yeah but having empathy is easier while you are playing with your 3ds, and if you have missed the post two people liked it so much for nobody liking, and one thing is to wait a little an another very different thing is to wait for something that is supposedly finished since middle November, something that also gets on people nerves is that 90% of the people here was complaining too, the update gets out for their systems , and suddenly they ride on their high horses and look down on another people that are just doing what they were doing days ago.
I waited longer than this for multirom, and even during that wait I was on the exact same high horse. There's zero point in complaining, regardless of how many other people might be doing it. Is it causing you actual physical pain to be patient? No. Has Gateway cancelled their update plans? No. So just do something else and it'll be released when it's released. There's nothing more to it.

If you don't plan using it for .CIA, it's fine. You'll end up with 3GB extra storage (1GB taken due to emuNAND).

What exactly about it do you not understand? It will be necessary for you to play any games released that require a newer firmware than what your current system firmware is. The emunand is simple. The gateway creates a seperate partition on the 3ds sd card. This partition has a copy of the current system nand installed into it. The gateway makes the 3ds load that nand file and use it as if it were the nand that is installed in the 3ds. So, when you first set up the emunand, it is a copy of the nand currently in the 3ds. The benefit of having an emunand is, if you buy a physical game or download a rom that requires a newer or higher version firmware, you can update the emunand to that version. This will allow you to play newer games while never having to upgrade the actual firmware in the 3ds. This leaves the exploits or vulnerabilities that exist in the firmware which allow you to load the gateway, intact while still allowing newer games to be playable. It also allows you to access the eshop for game updates or eshop purchases without being forced to update the actual system. The catch is, we have to wait for Gateway to upgrade the loader to be able to emu-late the new nand every time nintendo releases an update. If you accidentally update the emunand before gateway releases an update, it will stop working. That is why it is a great idea to not only backup and safely store your system nand but the emunand as well. there is a tool floating around designed for just that purpose. If you happen to update emunand and you have a backup, you can restore the backup using the emunand tool. This does not work for system nand yet. That required a hardware modification to do before now. Probably just a matter of time now. I hope this helps and you now realize the cool benefits of emunand. It also explains why, if you look back at the other discussions about this update, all of us were concerned that this update would not have emunand for the newer firmware consoles.

Ah yes, you're making the terrible comparison others have made before you. Extra features on an already operating 3ds + gateway combo is not the same as an entirely unusable N3DS + Gateway combo!

The problem here is that the update was aimed mostly to new 3ds users the video actually says blah blah ...working on new 3ds and now it can be foresee that it make take a month or two, I understand that you had to wait, but its normal that a lot people are feeling disappointed with what they make think is a low blow, its as simple as that. not everything is blank or white there is a lot of grey in the middle, and having your new 3ds your microsds and your gateway after waiting a lot is frustrating, and most of the people complaining here are being more or less polite, while some people ( that are currently playing and hours ago were complaining) are saying something like dumb ass people who bought the new 3ds deserve it.

Imagine situation that gateway says fuck that, and releases unstable beta for new 3ds
people end up:
a) whining they don't know how to install it
b) whining they bricked their console
c) whining they lost their data
d) whining they did a crap job
e) whining [insert reason here]

Seriously people it's for your own good and to protect you from your own idiocy. I've been hoping for tons of brick and yet there was none, do you even realize how rare it is with beta releases for hacks ? Shit i've seen people break consoles on stable releases.

Screw you. The point was to help someone else understand something. This isn't the english writing composition thread. If it bothers you that much, ignore me and you will never have to see another one of my posts. Don't be such an ass!

Edit: BTW Thanks Ashtonx :yay:

I was kinda hoping I'd brick my XL(non "new") at some point just so i could tinker with it and fix it haha Think it'll even look like bricking? Nope. :( Not even upgrading with the "downgrade" feature did it... /sigh

Then again, that's what i do. Tinker with stuff. :D Probably more than actually playing games on my systems.

But yeah, your points are valid for people who aren't like me and gateway wanna cover their asses and not release it yet for n3ds.

Well you seem like a fun person at parties: assume everyone is an idiot, and hope for bad things to happen to a lot of people. I would have rather have had an unstable beta, then the nothing we have now.

I'm sure they would have released support for the N3DS if it was an option. Likely, they found some issues at the last second with their N3DS code that could potentially brick systems. So if people would really prefer that as a possibility instead of just waiting an extra couple weeks, so be it. As it stands, however, nobody has been "wronged" by the way Gateway has chosen to go about this. Only if they fully cancel their planned support for the 3DS could I understand this level of frustration and this amount of whining.

Firmware release update
Posted on December 18, 2014
We know many Gateway users are eagerly anticipating our upcoming native firmware support for Systems over 4.5 up to 9.2.

We have currently implemented support for firmware versions 7.0 until 9.2 and adding support for lower versions every day.

We apologize for the delay but want to reassure our users that it will be released soon.

Our proven policy is not to rush a product for a quick shameless buck, but to release highly featured updates which are also future proof. All Gateway owners have been enjoying our product for up to 18 months now and none of them regret their purchase. The same will remain for new users who we are sure will enjoy their Gateway, probably for the lifetime of their console.

Thank you for your support and we ask you for just a little more patience, our release is now just around the corner.

UPDATING SYSNAND TO FIRMWARE 9.3 NOT RECOMMENDED
Posted on December 9, 2014
Just yesterday system firmware 9.3 was released and after quickly analysing it we want to warn our users *NOT* to update their sysnand to 9.3 or higher if they want to enjoy our upcoming support!

We repeat, DO NOT update sysnand to 9.3 or beyond!

We plan to move forward with the additional support for sysnand firmware range 9.0 – 9.2.
For users that did not update yet in this range, do not worry. We will add support for a firmware range lower than 9.0 which can be installed using a gamecard update.

Ladies and gentlemen, as they say.. a picture speaks a thousand words! That must mean a video speaks a few million words, right? Without further ado, today we show you Gateway 3DS working on the New Nintendo 3DS.
wee finally something about n3ds.. proof of concept, no mention about next firmware supporting it though.

did we miss something ? oh right there was the first announcment
first announcment in regard of current fw said:
SUPPORT FOR FIRMWARE 9.0 – 9.2 COMING
Posted on November 14, 2014
We recently reached a major milestone and now we are happy to announce that we are in the process of finalizing our support for 3DS systems running System Firmware 9.0.0-20 / 9.1.0-20J / 9.2.0-20 natively!
Yes, this includes 2DS and New 3DS!

Yes, you heard us right! If you have a 3DS, or a 2DS or a New 3DS system that is running System Firmware 9.0.0-20, 9.1.0-20J or 9.2.0-20 then you WILL be able to use it with Gateway 3DS!

We recommend the following to our interested users:
– If you are on native System Firmare 4.5, then please stay at this version.
– If you are on native System Firmware 5.0 or higher, then please update to 9.0.0-20, 9.1.0-20J or 9.2.0-20 and stay on this version. Do not update beyond this version.

But we also need help from YOU our loyal users!
We need you to get the word out to your community, friends and family that they must not update their 3DS beyond the version we recommended above!
We cannot guarantee that our solution will keep working with future updates above 9.2.0-20!

Anyway the way i see it the update is about supporting fw <9.2, new 3ds is an extra, troublesome one that requires extra work, are you saying gateway should've made 3ds and 2ds owners wait till they finalize export for n3ds ? I know i'm a dick and a sadist but that's just being a douche "since i can't use it no one should"

I went to the web site, and it told me to update my card, which I did. I don't know if it go borked, or what, but the exploit doesn't work. It goes to the launch gateway menu, then it says there is no card in the slot (there is).
If I try again, it just goes to the main menu.
I have super mario bros 2 gold edition 3ds xl with 8.1 firmware.
any thoughts?
Thanks!

I installed the ds profile exploit, after downgrading to 4.2. It still says there is nothing inserted in the game card slot. What's up with that?

Well you seem like a fun person at parties: assume everyone is an idiot, and hope for bad things to happen to a lot of people. I would have rather have had an unstable beta, then the nothing we have now.

If you got skills you should've tried to get into crowd doing closed beta tests ;P you got nothing cos you'd prolly brick your console and then keep whining how gateway released broken update and bricked your console.

And yes i assume everyone is an idiot, i'd rather be positively surprised from time to time then get disappointed every minute.

Well, they had the possibility to just say soon or around the corner or whatever but just for regular users for n3ds, something along these lines: we have experienced some problems with n3ds and the release could be delayed, but they decided to just say nothing because it was probably a commercial strategy.

Do you want them to work on your n3ds exploit or keep responding to whines ?

Nowhere did gateway say that it was aimed at new 3ds owners. It was aimed at compatability with higher firmwares. There are alot more classic 3ds owners on higher firmwares than new 3ds owners. The point of this was to increase the size of their customer base, period! From a business stand point it made more sense to support classic 3ds owners on higher firmwares because the that was the largest increase in market share in one move. I'm not saying that this was why they did not release it for n3ds owners simultaneously. In fact, the information we have at this point says it was for stability and functionality issues. At least it is coming though. Your position is better than where the thousands of clasic 3ds owners were at not too long ago. That is, thinking that they would never be able to use a gateway on their consoles and that the only other options were inferior products whose developers were obviously incapable of providing their customers with innovations and improvements without stealing another manufacturer's work.

keep responding no just when they addressed the situation on December 18 , it was the appropriate moment. If they have bricks with n3ds the should have said so people could have decided for themselves if they wanted to just keep waiting or not.

That's not why N3DS owners are annoyed.

How pissed were regular 3DS owners just a few days ago waiting?
How pissed were regular 3DS owners when Gateway released OMEGA 2.7 for 4.x owners?

What's actually happening is that now that 3DS owners can finally use the exploit, their relief has turned into schadenfreude (especially with jealousy for N3DS owners' Super-Stable 3D etc.) I don't remember acting like a dick and lecturing people to STFU with their whining because I have a 4.4 3DS and didn't have to wait for anything.

Have some empathy.
