Would anyone be willing to try replacing all the texture assets from the JP rom to the US/EU rom? I know it won't fix the dialogue and "age" of the characters, but it's a start! :)

Does anyone have a full list of the censorship and dialogue changes done during localization? When I played the US version, it felt like a lot of the writing was dazzled up and forced jokes.

Someone would probably need to look at every text string and re-translate it. Supposedly they removed a bunch of sexual jokes as well.

Apparently the dialogue was NOT censored, just the textures and their ages... maybe I'll give it a shot myself!

Would it be better to import the text into Bravely Default JP version instead of replacing models? Or do a retranslation of the Japanese version?

It's only ages and outfits that were changed, dialogue is the same.

I'm interested in looking into this over the holidays. Are there any examples of swapping models in other games yet?

Not sure what you mean by 'dialogue', the dialogue hasn't changed outside of some things here and there that don't translate all that well, the only sexual or more adult refferences features in the game are when either someone dies, or when the sage makes some 'references', and those are translated pretty damn well from their original counterparts, or at least translated to the best equivalents the English language has.

The only difference is the character textures for a grand total of 2 jobs for Edea and Agnes, it wouldn't be a texture replacement either, it'd be a model replacement, the bits that've changed are actually polygons that don't exist in the 'censored' version.

The character ages have changed of course, but that seems like a pointless thing to edit really, they're never mentioned ingame, nor do they have any effect on either gameplay or plot.

I don't mean to be rude, but why are you being such a downer?

Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound like a downer, typed it up a bit late at night so it was quite blunt, my bad.

I just wanted to explain that, having taken apart the EU/USversion myself and viewed the models, the models are different so thats what'd need switching, its actually easier than switching all the texture in the game (since only 1 or 2 things have actually changed anyway.

I sort of feel that requesting such a huge job, that in the long run (ouside of the censored character change) is going to be a lot of work, for only a minute change, the translation for Bravely Default was actually very good, and I think a lot of fans go a little overboard in thinking their game has been 'ruined' when in actuality its a very minor difference.

Each job is stored in a seperate bcres file, so switching the filenames should actually be quite easy in theory, and also quite quick, the game actually has a very organized structure.

If anyone wants a tool or 2 for the game I can provide a few quickBMS scripts for you, I didn't make them myself however, so I can't take credit for them.

In short I somewhat see 'can you translate this game' as a 'I think the Japanese version is better because' but in this game the Japanese version (outside of the outfit censorship of course) is as close as it can really get to the English translation.

If the uncensored version of the model wasn't different enough to require different animations, I'd imagine you could just swap the files. It is the same game engine after all. I can't imagine them changing much between localizations and such. :P

That's why I amended my original post in another post stating it was just the graphics, so yes, I would like to just swap in the JP models then :0)

If you want to know what models need replacing, I should be able to let you know without any problems.
I don't have the JP version so I can't say, but, I imagine the jobID folder will be exactly the same honestly.

Little late to the party but just to clarity a couple of things, dialogue wise you aren't missing much, as mentioned before by another poster. I know this because I've finished the original bravely default and subsequently played "For the sequel"(or simply the updated international/NA/EU) version with the English text/voice option and yes translation wise there are some slight misses but the pervy joke tones are also present in the English version. Even the crappy/lane/zinger jokes in the original japanese version also occurs at the same times as the English version. I honestly can't say i'd prefer either one, though i simply like the japanese voice acting better.

For those who have access to .cia, the bunny/toga skin dlcs are available on chinese rom sites. I honestly didn't even notice the skin changes, I knew they were present, but I can't even really remember how different it was.
