I'm beginning to wonder why Gateway posted a video with no intention of releasing the update in the then-near future. Wouldn't it be smarter to release a video a few days before? It's been so long that I'm beginning to have doubts.

it's possible the video is fake and gateway only did it to get us to buy cards

You shouldn't doubt them - they have a great track record. There was a half-a-year wait for v2.0, but it came eventually.

I refuse to believe this is true. :glare:

Jesus wept. It's been less than a month since the video and people are having doubts. It was over 2 months between the multi-rom video and release.

How many times do Gateway have to prove themselves?

Gateway announced. People doubt them, they release.
5.1 SDK don't work. People doubt them, they fix and release emunand.
Card 2 don't work. Doubt again, they fix them.
Multi-rom. Release a video, still people doubt them. They deliver.
7.X encryption, same again.

Is there a reason as to why they release "hype" videos so far in advance before the actual release? I can't imagine that going over well with the fan base. Take this thread for example. I'm sure many of us have lost the level of excitement after nearly 1 month of waiting.

In this case, probably to stop people updating their 3ds.

If they didn't bother to do an early vid, people would have updated, Gateway would have released and the tears would flow. Just like they did when it came out and it was 4.5 only.

I imagine part of it is the warning not to update past 9.2. They also want to start selling cards without having to compromise themselves with a shoddy software release, so for them its the best of both worlds.

I can say that if it wasn't for the video, I wouldn't have a 9.2 N3DSXL waiting with me right now. So I'm really fucking grateful for the early video :rofl2:

That is a good point. If they didn't post the update video, people would have updated to >9.2 and gotten screwed. Although the question is now "did Nintendo update to 9.3 to block Gateway?". If so, then the argument that GW was trying to warn us is invalid.

Because they're really not the best at creating hype to be honest. They're also not really good at communicating and keeping a large fan base happy. They released the video to show naysayers who thought it was "hard/impossible/wtf to make it all work on a N3DS. And also to whoever thought it was a lie due to a near simultaneous release with Sky3DS.

In truth, despite the lack of communication; nothing backfired from their plan, it was us who hyped it to extreme cult'ish levels. All hype wears down eventually. If they had kept the communication, this wouldn't have "died".

You also had the issue that everyone was basicly sh*tting out a tentative release date and gathering others to hype around it. Nothing happened and poof.

I, of course, took part in all this, but simply because in the end, I knew better. I came here to vent off, know a bunch of cool guys and have some fun whilst anticipating a soon-to-be fantastic release. If you ask other people though, my age should be somewhat low, my patience severely low-key and sport a very whiny attitude. Accept that for what you will.

Case in Point: I was once hyping and anticipating Phantasy Star Universe's release on the Ps2. I waited two goddamn years for it to release.

I'm pretty sure they just aimed to block ninjhax, and got lucky by either hitting a similar vulnerability, or cleaning up their own code.
