This is rather odd. I set the folder as hidden in Windows explorer, and it still shows up on the card.

I'm using the actual Gateway R4 clone. I popped the microSD in my actual R4i card and it just loaded to a black screen, so evidently the files are different from *actual* Wood.

For clarification, I just took the "Blue Card (R4i)" files from Gateway's download and copied them to a blank MicroSD, nothing else. I then set the __rpg folder to hidden.

I found a post from this forum from 2007 or so, saying you can specify a folder to hide in a settings.ini file - except I don't have one of those. Anyone who knows more about Wood able to help me out?

Every file system or firmware/operating system handles invisible files differently..

for NTFS it's just a flag like, hidden = true, and windows has an ability to display hidden files or not, the general linux distro works with having a dot infront of the name like .newFolder makes an invisible folder named newfolder, and as is with windows, you can set it so that you can SEE the files/folder even when invisible..

The same will be true for the (3)DS file system en firmware, the application itself has to handle the (not)showing of invisible files.. so setting them to "Hidden" in windows won't make a difference

Except that the actual Wood manual says you can just set it as hidden if you want to hide it...
Well, apparently the manual is wrong then, as evidenced by your very own Opening Post. (Or you did something wrong with hiding it in Windows, or you misinterpreted the manual.)
Why not just Cut-Paste the __rpg folder off the SD card if you don't want it on there for a moment. Or if you still want it on there but not being loaded, just rename it to something else.

Does it even work if you don't have that folder? I thought that was needed for it to function...

Oh, sorry... For some reason, I was under the impression you wanted to just get rid of the files and use a different firmware altogether. (Not sure if there even is a different firmware...)
My bad!

Can't you set it to hidden in the Wood firmware itself? As in, boot it up, select the __rpg folder and see if there is something like folder options?

I don't see any option like that.

The Gateway uses a clone card, like I said... REAL R4s don't have that problem. The only options it gives me are the standard copy/paste/delete stuff, and of course you can't delete it as it actually needs those files to function.

What I had read said you can make a "settings.ini" file and specify hidden folders in there, but the Gateway files did not include one, so I'm not sure what the format has to be.

Hence why I made this thread - hoping someone who knew a lot about the Wood firmware could answer that.

I don't think most Gateway users here use the blue card for DS games. They simply use it as a... gateway... to 3DS roms.
Anyway, sorry for misreading your post. I had completely misunderstood your original intent.

Maybe you can download a Wood firmware and copy the settings.ini from that and adjust it to your needs? It might just work normally for the Gateway blue card firmware.

I don't use it for DS games either. I actually got a tiny MicroSD card for it, the only thing on there is the Gateway Installer .nds file

Just that because I mess around with my system settings so much I actually use that thing frequently to reinstall the DS profile exploit.

And for some stupid reason the card always highlights that folder first so I have to keep selecting the actual .nds file to launch it.

Ah, I see. Then have you tried the settings.ini file? Maybe you can even set it up so that it just always launches the exploit without loading the menu interface.

Can someone give me a template file to work with? That would help...

--Edit--

OK, so there's actually a globalsettings.ini file inside that __rpg folder. I added this line, which I found on the gbatemp wiki:
hiddenFileNames = __rpg

Didn't seem to do anything. Upon closer inspection, that wiki page was specifically for AKAIO, not Wood. All I see is these Wood FAQs saying "yes, you can hide the folder" but not saying HOW.

--Edit 2--

OK, so I thought of an idea and it immediately backfired.

I can "copy" the file, then "paste" it in Favorites (press X or just go back to the main screen and select it). Under Favorites, all that will show is GATEWAY INSTALLER.

However, when I run the file and exit it (which ends the software and the 3DS asks you to go back to the home menu or power off), as soon as I open the flash cart again, it's right back at the MicroSD folder and not Favorites.

Thought that would have solved this issue, but nope.

Dude, you are doing this the hard way. try this.

1) Set the folder to hidden in windows
2) Put card in gateway and boot it up
3) Press START to bring up menu
4) Go to settings
5) Press L Button till you see "File System Settings"
6) Set "show hidden files" to OFF
7) Press A twice to save and confirm.

That's it! Might need reboot. Much easier!

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Didn't realize you could use L/R on the settings.
