They bricked people for trying to load, I think, custom firmwares on there carts or something.
Just read about the gateway brick code somewhere. It's old news but they did, at one point, try to brick people for using competitors.

There was also a chance to brick legit users as well, and credible users on this very forum have replicated the brick on a legit, clean GW, because the bricking code didn't have secure enough checks at first. Unless a more recent turn of events took place.

With the Amiibos and the next patch for SSB coming, Nintendo is going to prepare a new update, and mostly to block the sky3DS and the Gateway, if I were you, I would hurry to update your 3DS and download the patches for the games if you are above 5.1.

I'm ready :)

Waiting for Gateway's update :yaysp:

So, obviously this is for 2DSs and New 3DS consoles on 9.x firmware. My question is, where do the regular and 3DS XL consoles fit into the equation? This news rather intrigues me :P

As much as I want to hype up for this, I just feel like there's no true exploit other than what the Sky3DS is using, so I think we're going to be limited to 1 game per microSD. However, on the flip side, even if it only had 1 game per MicroSD, it's still a hell of a lot better than being restricted to 10 games total. At least with this I can indefinitely switch games on the same micro, or something.
Yeah the fact that GW specified that 4.5 users should not update means the new exploit will be more limited, however one can imagine it might still be more consumer-friendly than the sky3ds. Always nice seeing some product choice for things like these regardless of what we will find out in a few days.

They're in the same category as 2DSs. The reason the 2DS and New3DS are special is because they both come with firmwares higher than 4.5 from the factory. They're basically saying it'll work for any 3DS handheld with 9.X firmware on it.

Well then, that is most certainly the best news I've heard today :P

i will go out on a limb here and say they probably have full kernel access and that their new 9.x exploit will also involve cia installation , seems like they were kind of hinting at such a thing before when they said that they were saving the cia devmen cfw thing to be released as part of a new major release but cause of gionnify they released it early, it kind of suggests that the devmen and new exploit are related somehow, or that they were planning on releasing the new 9.x exploit and devmen support as part of a new major fw release before all these recent leaks and developments ,so i assume they were waiting to perfect cia installation on 9.x and to thoroughly test before a release

maybe GW has already decapped both the 3ds SOC and the new 3ds SOC also

Wait a minute... To update the red card you need the blue card right? And the blue card needs to access the kernel to install the exploit, am I right?
That means they found another exploit because if they didnt we couldnt update the red card to play 3ds roms.
By that logic we could be at step one where you could use only one game per micro sd, but that doesnt need to be true, maybe we do get a multirom feature.

in order for that they would need to update the blue card, is it possible to update the r4 clone blue Gw to work on latest fw? i assume r4 didnt do it cause they are just lazy and like to constantly sell new cards instead of supporting old ones, but GW could maybe get it working if it is not legit HW issue
either that or they have a new way to exploit the 9.x fw directly without needing us to go into ds mode at all and then we would update the FPGA from 3ds mode directly, they might have a direct exploit for 9.x with no ds mode required, also if no ds mode is required for the new exploit then it mean GBA eshop titles would be working as well , another feature they have been promising

the blue card was only ever used to install the NDS profile exploit which was completely fixed in 7.x+ so even if they do have some sort of exploit it will unlikely be needing any NDS flashcard to install it

In one week we will be getting a lot of things, Ssspwn, custom 3ds themes, New3ds, PokemonORAS and Probably Gateway 9.xx support Im ready :yaynds:

Well, the blue card is used to install the Gateway menu using the DS Profile exploit. But since that's been patched in later firmwares, I'm sure Gateway has some ideas to make Gateway work on v9.X through a method they discovered. :P

I think it's more about the entrypoint than limiting features when running 9.x.
Remember mset is patched since 6.0+ and that just required a few taps on the touchscreen.

Also when you are in kernel mode you can basically do anything, so why limit it?

the red card is updates through the launcher as far as im aware not the blue card

yes i am thinking it is a direct exploit ,exploit 9.x directly from 3ds mode, and that also would solve the GBA/dsi ware problem at the same time as well

no to update GW fw you just update the launcher on the 3ds SD , but to do a FPGA update of the red GW card ,like we had to do when the multirom feature was added you need to update the card through the ds mode GW menu
but we dont even know if this new 9.x thing will even require an FPGA update yet

Well, I doubt those problems would be fixed, but meh. As long as it's not too limited for stuff like using homebrew, I'll be happy with it.

Well the big mystery was indeed if you will have kernel mode or not on this new 9.x support. Since GW said not to update to 4.5 users, wouldn't it make sense to assume it doesn't?

it would be fixed by default as the reason we cant run GBA/dsi ware is that entering DS mode breaks the exploit, if the new exploit is not a DS mode extery point exploit then it wont break by running things in DS mode

So, I've had the Gateway ever since it's been out. Meaning, I have the oldest model of GW. Will that matter at all when I use GW's new Update? I know the R4 needs a new card revision after revision. Hopefully this isn't the case for Gateway? Can anyone confirm this won't be an issue?
