Hello, and good evening everyone. I recently got my first ps3 and, well, I have a strong desire to mess around with it. Sadly I'm a noob when it comes to console modification. So, I come to this forum in seek of help. See, my PS3 is used, and mildly broken. It's disk drive stopped functioning some time ago, so that makes QA Flagging activation a little difficult. Though, that is not what I have come here to ask, though, if you could inform me of how to make that work, I surely wouldn't mind the information. Before I shall continue, I'll inform you of the PS3 specs. The PS3 is a fat, and is running 3.01 OFW. Now, I know I need to update it to 3.55, but after that I am at a loss. What CFW? What do I do if I wish to access Netflix? etc. etc. Anyway, I've come here with many questions, but I doubt It would be polite to ask more then a few, not to mention, this post is getting rather long. So, my main question is, what CFW would you recommend, that would not put me above 3.55? I mostly wish to use it to play game backups. What would I have to do to be able to access Netflix, despite the CFW (how would I even download it?) and finally, Would I be able to use my PSN purchased games in CFW? Though, how'd I'd download them without getting banned is another qestion all together.

Sorry for the long post, I highlighted my main questions, along with the PS3 firmware. Any help would be appreciated!

If you are on CFW, there is a possibility of having your console banned for simply being online. Are you willing to take such risk?

Not everyone with CFW is getting banned, but the risk is there. We don't know the exact method that Sony is using to sniff out CFW user.

Well, getting banned... Not really. Though I did manage to find a means to access Netflix without PSN access, though, I wish to be extra safe and use ReActPSN. Thought I don't think its compatible with Kmeaw 3.55 Also, I love your icon Sir Monokuma.

Personally, for Netflix need I would just get Chromecast and call it a day. Much better than PS3 anyway.

I do have a PS3 with Habib 4.65 non-Cobra CFW that hasn't been banned yet. I only go online to sync trophy and to download PSN titles. I use PSNPatch to disable CFW before I enable the Internet connection.

I guess I could get a Chromecast, they aren't that expensive at least. Though, I do want to be a cheapskate and just use my PS3. I'm actually using REBUG 4.30.2 REX. I like it, but sadly, I wish to update it even more... which my ps3 wont let me do .-. It gives me an error after 70% of the update process saying no update found -.-; I kind of wanna switch to Habib 4.65, though I'm worried about bricking it. And also downgrading, if I want to. Also netflix can't seem to function properly. I get an error when it starts up now *sobs* Anyway, thanks for the help

I would switch to rebug 4.65. Habib Cobra 4.65 gave me some problems with ISO loading. Did you QA flag sucessfully at 3.55? If not this uses a different way to QA toggle http://www.ps3hax.net/2014/10/qa-toggle-habib-toolbox/

If you wish to retain access to PSN and have CFW, the safest option is to dual boot with the help of an E3Flasher or a similar device allowing you to use both official and custom firmware. In addition to that, use separate accounts for CFW activities and OFW activities to avoid an account ban. There are numerous Stealth applications, however none give a 100% guarantee, there's always a risk involved.

I wanna update, I really do, but it never seems to work. And ya, I did, when I was on Kmeaw 3.55 I activated it with Rebug Toolbox. Still activated to!

I have one of the older PS3's that require soldering .-. that's to iffy for me, I remember when I had to make my own Circuit Board in school... The Soldering was not fun.

No, it's really odd. It always stops at around 70% and says it cant find the update data. I guess I could try again... Ill try right now

I would keep on trying, I remember that happened to me when I updated to Habib Cobra 4.55. And make sure you have real CFW's and not fake ones that brick your console. I always check my CFW update files with PPC+

You can't eat a cake and still have it - CFW has certain risks associated with it and you just have to take them on board. If you can't solder and don't want to have the device soldered in for you, you'll have to make due with software solutions.

I know, I know. At best, I'd get someone else to do it for me. Maybe someone off of craigslist. Though, If its worth it, I'm not sure. I haven't actually connected to psn so for all I know, the console has already been banned. It is a used ps3 after all.

Alright, just to update. It's now running on Rebug 4.65.1. Netflix works now, everything seems fine... Although I cant seem to Toggle the QA Flag and the PS3 is blinking the YLOD after a blue screen .-. It's all working perfectly fine though so I'm mildly confused. But it works, so I'm Happy! Thank you everyone.

Already have I spoofed my idps and everything to a banned one, just to protect the original. Thanks though!
