Hardware PS3 Audio Setup Questions

Hi there, before answering my question, I request that you state how you are doing. I decided to hook my PS3 on to my HP 27bw monitor, the problem is that this monitor doesn't have any speakers on it. What should I do, what do I need to get audio from my PS3?

on my PS3, I'm using dual audio output in the audio video settings (which force output to stereo, but it's fine for me as I don't have a surround setup).

HDMI -> connected to TV
video port -> PS2/PS3 component video cable -> stereo audio connected to my PC's Line in (using an adapter). From there my audio card renders audio on all 5.1 speakers (even if it's a fake 5.1, all speakers are ON which render better than poor TV stereo speakers).

Sometime there's a delay with audio, which I fix by selecting another input source in windows's audio mixer, and select line-in back.

humm, I don't know how to explain better.

in your PS3 video menu, you can select the outputs (hdmi, component, etc.), there's an option to enable dual output.
If you do, it will tell you that Stereo is forced in this mode.
Now both Video connectors (hdmi and component) will output sound simultaneously.

I'm using this "dual output" mode because I use hdmi to get better video on TV, and component to get better audio on PC.
If you don't use hdmi, you don't need the dual output mode. just select component.

How do you want to output your video ? hdmi on monitor or video capture card on computer?


digital hdmi port -> hdmi cable -> TV (or on your monitor's HDMI)
analog video port -> component cable or composite cable -> L/R cable connected to RCA to jack adapter -> jack adapter connected to Line-in on PC.
Open the audio mixer on windows, go to recording devices and select line-in as input. (instead of mic-in, or something else).

instead of component or composite cable, you can also use a RGB cable with audio output + this one.

You can also get an HDMI audio extractor which can extract the audio from HDMI port.

I wanna output my video through HDMI on monitor, which works, however, audio does not. I tried configuring my montor settings on Windows, but when I test it the green bars are very small tht says how loud the music is.. I tried the dual output thing but I can't find it..

Sorry, I can't help you more without making screenshot. (but please, don't make me take screenshot of the XMB, just read ALL your settings and understand what they are used for, try them!)

I'll do that, but turns out that my monitor doesn't have built in speakers

Enable dual video, which both send audio+video. Usually it's used to display video on two different TV at the same time, but you don't need to connect video to two monitors/TV, you can use only the audio output.

The audio output of the A/V cable can be connected to any audio speakers, not obligatory your computer's audio card. I Mentioned the Line-in on your computer because you asked "what is your setup". I'm doing it like that, but you can just connect the audio cable of your A/V output on your TV (why not? video on monitor and audio on TV's speakers by setting the correct AV channel), computer's audio mixer, standard external stereo speakers, even hearplug, etc.

No, this cable converts 3 line (L+R+Video)into a 3-lines jack.
You don't need the video signal at all !


You need what trumpet linked.
a L + R ---> Stereo jack
(do not connect the video cable, you need only the audio to be converted to Stereo jack in order to plug it into your computer)
