My Xbox 360 Slim 250GB is the first wave that was released in 2010 and due to using the USBs too much its door has a pretty noticeable scratch (it doesn't have a button to keep it open/closed), which is why glossy isn't ideal for consoles much less controllers.

I contacted Nintendo of America and while they didn't say whether it is compatible with other games or not, they are certainly aware that people want it to work with other Wii U & Wii games, as well as possible future Virtual Console NGC games.

Hello,

Thank you for writing to us, and for being patient while you waited for our reply. We have been experiencing a high volume of emails, resulting in delayed responses. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

At this time, we unfortunately don't have any specific information as to whether or not you will be able to play games other than Super Smash Bros. for Wii U with a GameCube controller. However, we can certainly understand your thoughts on this matter and want you to know how much we appreciate you sending them in. We also want to assure you that your comments will be added to our records for Virtual Console and will be made available for other departments at the company to review and thoughtfully consider.

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America, Inc.
Annemarie Ford

I admit that I'm a bit disappointed they didn't give me a clear "Yes" or "No" but I suppose they're saving the best for last.

So sadly it seems like it'll really be playable with Smash Bros. during its launch, but I hope they make it compatible with other games in the future.

We did, but the issue is that Nintendo of UK credibility is lower than NoJ/NoA or NoE's.

Because I've heard contrary to that, until NOA or NOJ confirms, I don't believe anything Nintendo UK says. Something about that doesn't add up, as they don't speak for the entirety of Nintendo or all its markets. vWii Mode is very plausible.

So you're saying Nintendo cannot add support with a game update for the games that have already been released?

Also, for those that remember Nintendo made New Super Mario Bros. U compatible with the Wii U Pro Controller which at launch/previously it was only playable with the Wii U GamePad.

It's just a matter of time before Nintendo snaps and realises they can increase the sales of the NGC adapter by making it compatible with more games than only Smash Bros.

You know, the Wii originally had four GC ports and Nintendo tossed out that idea with later releases of the console that doesn't heve the four GC ports. Now, the Wii U don't have the four GC ports and Nintendo sees fit to release an add on for this feature, I wish they'd make up their mind.

if it really does work in vwii mode than you can bet there will be a vwii....update with a few extra fixes in it not just to enable the adapter. :ohnoes:

Actually, I was going to ask if anyone has found indications that it may already be enabled. Would Smash (physical release) come with a newer firmware version than 5.2.0? I always assumed the newest games would not have the most up-to-date firmware update on them unless the firmware is a couple of months old, because the time of starting the publishing of the game onto the disc and actually selling the game is of good length. Would someone be able to examine the existing vWii and Wii IOSs for similarities regarding GC controllers?

They could add it later, that's not the problem. It can't work out of the box because 4 GC controller ports over USB is not the same as the 4 GC controller ports that were in the Wii.

Right, but it was Nintendo of UK, they don't speak for all of Nintendo. They're by no means infallible so until people actually get a hold of it, no one will know for certain.

It is highly unlikely it will ever work in vWii mode as a Gamecube controller as they still haven't made the gamepad function as a classic controller yet which would be much easier. Remember that Nintendo couldn't even make a GBA emulator for the Wii U Virtual Console so what makes you think they are capable of adding that kind of support to their vWii hypervisor?

the gamepad input doesn't work because of technical limitations, vWii mode communicates via bluetooth, that's around 2,4Ghz wifi, the WiiU Gamepad communicates via around 5Ghz wifi, so in order for the vWii to understand the Gamepad input, they would have to rewrite some IOSes
I'm not saying, it would be impossible, Ninty could certainly do it, but they may be focusing on other things first and don't want to work on old software

and what is up with the GBA VC? where did you get this info? this is a list of GBA VC titles on the WiiU:
