eying the "last of us PS3 bundle" at walmart. $250

New PS3 "superslim", are obviously UN-hackable. and no backwards compatibility. but its not really an issue as i have a chipped PS2. and PS3 games are pretty cheap now anyway.

the superslim is apparently Quieter, takes up less shelf space, and Top-loading disk tray is a welcome feature, i hate it when you turn off a device and theres no way to take the disc out without restarting it.

i am almost sure you can eject the disc without turning on the console on the fat ps3 (but needs to be in standby)

That would explain it, I thought there was actual PS1 hardware on it, I knew the first PS3 models had PS2 hardware, then went to software then removed it.
PS2 emulation went from 100% hardware to partial hardware before it was removed all together.

Sony does have PS2 classics on PSN, which uses 100% software emulation.

From what I understand
They used to have both the ee and gs chips inside the fat ps3
They removed the ee and use the cell to emulate it but left the gs chip in
Then removed the gs chip to cut costs, im thinking maybe the gs chip coudnt be emulated properly

I can't think of any specific reason to get a Super Slim over anything else, but I also got the Uncharted 3 bundle and it was a pretty nice console. Only reason I went for it was because it was cheap as hell at the time (I got it for $200).

If you're ok with going legit/not bothering with ODEs, then the Super Slim is a pretty good console to go for. My only complaint was the ridges on the top collected a lot of dust, but a good cleaning fixes that up.

on second thought, the walmart price is pretty outrageous. $269 for the last of us bundle, and the nerve of calling it a "bundle". 1 controller and a game. they couldent even throw in a lousy vertical Stand. PS3's on ebay go for nearly half that, and most auctions come with extra controllers and some games.

If Sony made an "all in one" Playstation that played PS1, 2, 3 and 4 games, I would buy it, regardless of cost. And I mean full hardware support of disc based games, not just digital.

I skipped the PS2 era and haven't gotten into PS4 yet, so if they made something like that, it would be a no brainer type of purchase for me.

I'd be willing to pay between $1000 and $2000 for such a console.

If you could get your hands on the old Phatty PS3's with full PS2 backwards compatibility, you'd be 75% there. All PS3s can play PS1 discs, the old phattys can play PS2 discs, and obviously PS3 can play PS3 games...lol. No PS4 games, but at least that's something.
