The main thing the new update brings is compatibility with newer games that require at least this version, such as potentially Smash Bros. I'd rather update while I can. I can't possibly imagine that any potential future kernel exploit would require 5.1.2 or below.

Is there a bigger risk in modding the Wii U or is it largely just as easy as modding the original Wii? Just thought I'd ask. The ability to play Gamecube games in HD sounds so exciting.

I thought they were in HD? Bummer. Wii games are in HD though right?

Nope. They're "scaled" to a 720 or 1080 signal, but they're still internally 640 x 480 resolution. On Dolphin, the emulator, yes, they're rendered in full HD, but the games natively on a console never were. I don't know who told you that they were, if that's where you heard it.

Even not in HD. 480P through HDMI is better than wii and component cable.

Right, but they still are locked in at 480p or 480i, Dolphin is the only way to truly make them HD, heh.

Yeah, I know that :P I really hope a WiiU hack to free vWii mode to be run on WiiU mode, so much more things like true 1080P wii games would be awesome!

The problem is the amount of processing power to do so, it would put a lot of strain on the CPU and GPU though lol.
