OK apparently the installer on mine is messed up. I know that gbatemp can't link to it, but maybe someone can give the proper hash of the damned thing. When I get into my ds profile, it goes the full way instead of crashing. So obviously it's messed up and others have said the ftp one works but the ftp site is gone so all you've got is the site that they've got. So anyway yeah, anyone able to provide me the proper md5sum/sha1sum of the files so I can verify that I'm working with a good one?

Also the previous owner apparently bought it _just_ for the blue card to do ds games, and not the 3ds one and since I don't want to take any sort of bricking issues I am not going to be using firmware past 2.0(theirs 2.0 I think 3.0 is gateway cloned with bricking)

you can just use the gatewayinstaller.nds file from the gateway launcher it does exactly the same thing

assuming you can run NDS games still

also your post isnt very in depth, is your 3ds on 4.x and have you made sure its not partially updated as since 7.x what you are describing will happen even if you install the exploit

It's the firmware file from the r4i3ds.cn website I went to a resellers website they had the firmware there and I was able to use that one. And my 3ds is on 4.5.0-10U only reason it's on that was I had a game on preorder and it was supposed to require it and I accidently updated it. So taht's what I have it on. And as I said it was the firmware package on the r4i3ds.cn website.

Finally is there any sort of guide as to what firmwares were stolen from who? Because I'd like to get a more recent one but _don't_ want to have to risk bricking my system.

all firmwares where copied from gateway, from what it seems the brick code has been removed in the latest version though.

can you share a picture of your home screen.

from what? the before-ining where it wasn't working? Or which home screen you're talking about? The normal "ok here's all the programs" one then?

and do you want the firmware 1.64 card in it, or nothing?

edit: and aI thought the later ones were cloned from mt-card or whatever it is. As that's the one I _was_ going to get, because it did multirom and as far as I know gateway _still_ doesn't do multicard.

lol gateway does multirom.

Also 'wood r4'? That's a DS flash cart kernel.
Gateway (and its clones) come with an R4 cart 100% compatible with 3DS consoles on 4.5 firmware.
what's your problem anyway? It's not clear at all.
You installed the exploit and can't enter Gateway mode afterwards?

well there you go since apprently you want it, I imagine you're looking for the miiplaza icon thingy to show it's over 7.0

Edit: also I know that MT-Link did multirom way before gateay I believe that's who it was, the guys with the shark on the card. they had multirom way way before gateway ever did and as far as I knew gateway didn't do it yet(admittedly I haven't been keeping up on it ever since the great brickening.)

Yeah, there are cases of up-to-date consoles displaying 4.5 as the firmware revision, due to an incomplete update.

If your top screen shows 'L+R' to use the camera, you're definitely past v7. Even if your settings say v4.5.

snipped
And as I said I knew that they had that on there but as I said I haven't been on the internet at all since 4.5 came out and that was solely to download new latyon puzzles(since they were actually downloading them i am sure that they were due to the amount of packets that were sent) and I had 4.5 waiting for me and I kept saying "no" and then accidently hit "yes" and was shitting myself(metaphorically and ended up with 4.5 which I guess I needed anyway since I game was going to play required it and then I found out about flash carst for the 3ds)

edit: as I said I already had it, it just wouldn't crash for me.

Have you tried the installer from gateway's official website?
as I said I found a reseller who had the wood r4i firmware on their site and it worked fine. Also the reason I knew of that was because I was trying to find a second 3ds as a backup in case mine ever goes captus and I can't salvage the mobo. I used it to not message people with one that's too knew, I manged to get one in pretty good condition for 80USD I wish it'd be less but someone else wanted it. So I got it, it came with some sports game(whatever too bad I can't sell it for some extra cash) and it was on firmware 2.0.0U if I remember right even though the previous owner was playing mario kart 7(thankfully not patching thank god)

it's now on 3.0 because I wanted to streetpass with myself to do treasure hunts inc ase the guy never came through with the card, but I'll be going to 4.0 later on once I get a safe firmware for the 3ds and do a full nand backup(i doubt I'll be using emunand just want to have a full backup for safety reasons) even though I don't think I'll be able to do full backups of my own games if I read the stuff right, at least I can try to do some things with it.

edit: also so then the firmware 4.0b2/4.0b1 is the ones that don't do the whole "hey you're fucked" issue right?

edit 2: OK so then one thing I can't get is, the r4i 3ds gold deluxe card is using an asic with more memory than the gateway and it's the same as the mt card(i believed but I can't find a pcb shot to be sure) so I can't believe they've run out of memory already.

Or well I guess I could say they have more logic gates for the fpga to use, it has literally 2x the gateway, the ram/rom itself is the same but with way more logic to work with. I would've imagined that they could be more lazy with it with their designs.

the problem is that the didnt make the FPGA updatable.....so they cant do anything to add functionality that way, luckily for them, gateway had made the multirom software compatible with the old FPGA update version instead of making sure it wouldn't.....so that's why they now have multi-rom, but afaik, they wont be able to play card2 games without actually having to do some work themselves (not including the sill card2 to 1 tool as that doesn't work on proper games like animal crossing or pokemon

wait what? they're using the same fpga as the mt-card folks and it has it's own built in cpu. So I don't know why it won't be able to update it, since mt-card is the same one and it has a built in cpu, and I know the dstwo's able to do it because it has its own cpu to flash the fpga. Admittedly I don't know if that cortexm1 can do the flashing for them or not though. Admittedly I don't have PCB shots of the mt-card though. And since I'd guess that they're the same fpga and such I don't know why they couldn't flash that fpga update to their own. admittedly it'd have the mt-card stuff on it but it'd still add features. That's why I'm surprised that the gatewy's still doing OK it has way less room on it than even my old dstwo, so the fact that they're still able to do stuff with it surprises me, considering how little space that it has.

I hope that they're able to do the thing, and also I thought once again that multirom as mt-card folks that did it. As it was out of the gate that did multirom(or so I thought) without an fpga update.

edit: yeah the mt-card folks had multirom out of the gate and then did hardware updates after that. Admittedly I didn't expect a whole lot from r4 based folks but i can't see why it couldn't be updated since as far as I know the mtcard/dstwo has the same setup on the pcb.

edit: and i thought that their previous one had the ability to update its hardware or should've anyway since how else could it continue to work on newer firmwares

MT-card is programmed via a PC, gateway can be reprogrammed by the 3DS via the game port, R4/3DSlink and orange 3DS (all the same card btw) dont have the jtag pins connected to the card slot to enable programming

pretty sure this was so gateway couldn't brick the card for cloning....im also pretty sure that's why MT went the route of programming via usb too as they are also cloning gateway.....bricking the card was popular way of dealing with NDS flashcard clones.....unfortunately now its just brick the console instead seeing as they cant brick the card

basically this is why the clones cant save in pokemon or animal crossing as that feature does need a FPGA update which they cant do.....although it *would* be possible to develop a software fix.....unfortunately clones don't do very well at making their own code, so im not sure that will happen

also where did you get the info on how much space the cards have for programming im pretty sure they all use the same FPGA chip

Clones can't updated the FPGA because they didn't wire it to the 3DS. MT-Card uses a Usb port for FPGA updates, and gateway has it wired to the 3DS. Funny though, MT-card used to use a hardware button for multirom, but after gateway released multirom, MT-Card copied thier way of doing it.

the gateay 3ds is using a fpga that has ~1/2 of the logic gates, d-flip flops on it, the r4i/orange/link/mt-card are all using the same fpga that's better than the dstwo. The gateway is using the _same_ fpga that the dstwo is using. Hence why I was suprirsed that they still have room on the fpga to do all of the tricks required to emulate the 3ds cards.

Edit: also I never heard of that whole bricking thing, since the supercard is updateable via the sd card itself. So I imagine it was others that were bricking the other cards. And I heard of such things and that's sad to hear. But I guess for 25$ it'll be enough for my needs right now.

OK so then to be sure/safe the firmware 4.0 for r4i is a safe way of doing it then right? I know that 3.0 i think was gateay emunand stuff that included the bricking code I thought. And I think that the mt-card did emunand with hardware update anyway. Also the memory limits, I don't know why the launcher can only be 1MB though as that makes almost no sense to me since they have arm9/arm11 execution rights.

Also since the mt-card is doing usb updates how's it doing it, they don't include a usb cable/adapter from the packaging, so how can you update it via usb. does it have a micro-usb port on the card or something?

Edited again: OK so then since the fpga includes AES in hardware couldn't they have signed the fpga updates for the card, and then made sure that the hardware couldn't be updated unless signed with the same key? I know that this is probably impractical but i guess I should be OK with a 25$ card, as I was always meaning to get a second dstwo in case mine ever stops working and the second card plays ds roms ok from what I've heard.
