I've spent some time on creating a new banner template for Gamecube games. My reason for doing so is because I feel they should look more like virtual console games. Anyway, I'm sure most people won't want to change their whole collection, but for those few that might, I'm looking for feedback.

This isn't the final version, I don't want to release one, then tinker with colors and logos, and before you know it, there are slightly different banners for different games.

Here is what I have so far...

I'm working on a better Gamecube logo for the icon, and I'm flirting with the idea of having it say "NINTENDO GAMECUBE" in the top right of the banner, thoughts anyone? also, I'm not sure if the purple is quite right for the Gamecube, if someone wants to suggest a more appropriate purple that'd be cool.

I like it! If you manage to create a ton of them, I'll use them. I think Abz custom banners are alright but they are plain.

I plan on creating at least 50 or so for my favorite games. I will also take requests for ones I didn't make since everyone has different tastes. They are easy to do so it shouldn't take too much time, it's basically just adding the title screen, year the game was released, and # of players.

how about using this logo i grabbed from wikipedia https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...Logo.svg/538px-Nintendo_Gamecube_Logo.svg.png

or maybe switch the G to the logo

btw, are these forwarders for dios mios or nintendont?

maybe i will use forwarders instead of the cfg usb loader. and put the games in the sd card..

That's actually the logo I chose a few days ago :)

These are not forwarders, just the banner file for usb loader gx, which then loads dios mios or nintendont, but they can not be launched from the official menu. It wouldn't take too much work for someone to make them into forwarder channels, but I don't see myself doing it since I'm testing this all on my vWii and I don't have brick protection, so I prefer to keep my real NAND as virgin as possible.

I like the concept :) if usbloader gx could support such banners, I will be happy!
USB Loader GX does support the banners, I believe you just copy the bnr files to the cache folder or something (going from memory, it's been a while since I actually copied the files). There is another thread on here somewhere with a ton of banners already made, I'm just making a different style of banner to blend in with the VC banners

The GameCube logo as well as the purple color look pretty good to me.

Awesome! thanks for the input :)

Do you happen to know how to extend the PF line? I've been trying to do so for a while but sort of gave up.

The dark purple feels right btw, much nicer looking than GX's or Wiiflow's blue.

For the icon why not just use GX's?

Not sure how to extend the PF line yet, I think I'm just going to use another banner for the PF line length, probably Virtual Console Arcade since it seems like it would fit perfectly, i'll just have to color it accordingly. The only problem would be the background logo will probably be a different size because of the change, and I like the size it is now... ugh. I might as well just learn banner making at this point haha.

As for the icon, It looks similar to the GX one there now, but it's a little higher resolution. I'll have something to show soon :)

The farthest I got, was using benzin to convert banner.brlyt to xmlyt and in a text editor find the 2nd instance of "PFline" and one of the numbers there should let you change the length. But I didn't get to test the output.

Or theoretically you could use benzin to "import" VCA's PF line into the one you use.

That's the plan... Modifying something like that shouldn't be difficult. Instead of importing I'll just play around, that way I know it will be perfect. I could also change the scrolling background to be a bit larger, somewhere between what I have now and the SNES banner. I can't wait to get home so I can play around with it :)

i don't understand. why will you make them for single games, and they just launch a loader for choose a game? are you doing the banners for fun and other people to use?

i remember i saw the forwarders somewhere on gbatemp (it was a toon of them) i have a lot of virtual console stuff installed, and would be fun to have some gamecube games in that list too

That's not how it works, they are forwarders in a sense, they directly launch the game. The only difference between this and a forwarder "channel" is that this is only supported in USB Loader GX (afaik). They are not a full channel that gets installed in the official menu, they are banners that link to the Gamecube game on your SD card. Inside USB Loader GX, the look and act just like a forwarder, the only difference is nothing gets installed to the NAND.

Here is what I have now, I'm using SNES rather than N64 as a base, which means the bar at the top (PF line) is longer, and the background logo is larger. I'm working on the PF line now, the xml is much larger than I anticipated, and I can switch back to the older background logo if desired. I'm not sure which one I like better, leaning towards the bigger one at the moment though...

I think these look great!

Thank you very much!

I just found the correct place to change the value for the PF line, so my banner template is complete, unless anyone has any more suggestions. I'll wait around to see if any changes should be made, and then maybe tonight I'll start releasing some banner packs, starting with the 1st party Nintendo games of course :)

That's right, but like I said, if forwarders exist already to load Gamecube games with nintendont or dios mios, or dml or whatever, then it would take very little time at all to put these banners into those forwarders. I'd even do it for you as long as you supply the files.

EDIT: I updated the picture in post #13 to show what I have now, I would have updated the first post but this way you can compare logos and such.

Some have being done in the past PJM ...FIX94 did some awesome ones back in 2012. ...I've updated some myself some time ago, so re-using them would not be that difficult I think.
Since I load now all my gamecube gamers from the loader, I don't use individual banners like that anymore ...but this are definitely interesting
Would be cool to be able to use them again inside USBLoaderGX :)
