My choice has been made... Homebrew. No online. I know it sucks, I can't play MK8 online anymore. But, local multiplayer, with friends, being drunk, having fun, IS something we still can enjoy though.

I too know of people that I can play with locally, as well as homebrew apps, emulators, etc, I'm satisfied for now :P

I'm interested in what the exploit devs have to say on the matter of updating.

I'm content without homebrew in espresso, assuming there's no new exploit, but I'm lamenting a required update that breaks vWii into a semi-brick. Then those who update would be forced into an even worse situation between vWii and espresso online without the webkit exploit.

I'm pretty sure we can just find another webkit exploit once we have a higher-level exploit. There's no need in wasting another userspace one at this point, but all Wii U's should still be open to homebrew in the future, assuming whatever kernel exploit we find in 5.0/5.1 doesn't get patched before we even find it. There's no doubt in my mind that updating may be safe in the (potentially extreeeeeeeemely) long run

A lot of people won't be buying Smash Bros. / Xenoblade Chronicles. Potentially that's what the exploit devs are waiting to be released

Actually, not the case, the people who hack consoles is a very small percentage, and there's still local player, unless they have the update data on the disc. Those games are still quite a ways off. That doesn't make sense.

Why wouldn't they?

update could be on the disk...and Nintendo has always waited for noteworthy software / games to be released before exploit killing updates are pushed.

Just look at Flipnote studio on how they delayed it on purpose until they finally were able to perma-block 95% of DS Flashcarts

Its all still brains of a rocking horse :P

My general rules are:-

"Don't own a system if you're true intentions is for online MP and other network features, yet still want exploits and homebrew applications. If online MP is, then stop now and leave and go legit, it's not that simple and easy now with firmware updates with current gen hardware, so quit crying and whining.

"Don't even bother entering the hacking scene full stop, if online MP games is an issue to save all the hassle for yourself and others.

"Buy a second console for online MP and one for Homebrew"

when the message comes up click ''ok'' then you will get ''cancel or update'' click cancel
keep in mind you can no longer play mario kart 8 online and netflix, hulu, miiverse, and other nintendo services will no longer work until we can spoof/fake our console version when we establish homebrew.
As always keep standby off and block the url's in your router.
The web browser still works as its not a ''nintendo service''.

Thanks. Luckily I don't use any of those services.
What's standby mode ? I tried blocking the url's but it didn't work.

standby mode is what allows the console to auto download updates while the console if off. To turn off standby mode go to WiiU settings- power settings - and disable standby functions. (this will disable the quick start menu) but is highly recommended you keep it off

Ok, Quick start menu was added when firmware 5.0.0 came out since I'm below that I don't need to worry about this.
