I want to download Kirby super star ultra for my r4i 3ds gold but I read somewhere that the rom corrupted somebody's r4 card and I dont want to take the risk.

The worst thing that could happen is that your micro SD card gets corrupted, and that is fixable by formatting and reinstalling the R4 files. And even that is incredibly unlikely.
