Hi all,
So I cant after several attempts update my wii u to 5.1.0.
Before the update was pushed, on the vWii I made a NAND dump, and installed cIOS' (249,250,251) but now I cant update and I think it is because of this. I called Nintendo and they didnt know, so they told me to send it in to repair. I dont really want to do that, because if they see that I messed with something, they wont fix it and I might have a non-updating wii u, witch is a problem becuase I use the eshop and other things on it a lot.
So how can I fix it, or should I send it to them and hope for the best?

fyi, your warranty is null and void for running homebrew and installing cIOS's. Okay, the best thing you can do right now is run what's known as a Syscheck on it, and post a screenshot of the results here in this thread for others to look at. Blindly deleting/uninstalling stuff could result in a bricked/semi-bricked vWii

EDIT: download the vWii Compatible version of Syscheck here http://gbatemp.net/threads/syscheck-hde-v2-1-0-wii-application-update.356187/ and run it through the homebrew channel

UPDATE: Forgot to mention, most of the time, the issues your having are caused by either installing the wrong cIOS's (like ones intended for an actual physical wii, not vWii) or just corrupted cIOS's, which can just happen sometimes. HOWEVER, before we do ANYTHING, we need to be 100% certain what the issue is, otherwise you could lose ur vWii.

Ok have you run SysCheck? If so, post your results. (You can edit out your consoleID).
Going forward You only want to read NAND. You want to avoid writing to NAND. Make as few changes to NAND as possible.
use @JoostinOnline
How to post a System Check newer version of SysCheck

Well if he wants to play backups at all, writing to NAND is required because you need cIOS's installed. There's no way around it at this point. No hardware mods exist that run on the vWii (not publicly released yet anyways). But Bug_Checker_ does make a very valid point. Keep your writing to NAND to a minimum is your safest bet on the vWii especially. If you're intending on playing backups, it might be worth investing in one of the drive emulators that are coming out (assuming you can afford one) as it won't require writing ANYTHING to NAND at all to use a drive emulator for backups. Wiikey U is due out sometime soon (hopefully) and Cobra UDE was just announced.

Actually, I should have been clearer. I meant until his problem is solved. No NAND writing.

bluetailsfox11 Make sure your ORIGINAL NAND dump is tucked away safely. THEN make a current NAND backup. After doing the SysCheck.
I just saw your post after I posted.
I thought you may have one or more corrupt or poorly signed official Nintendo vWii IOS. In other words, the cios's were not the problem.

so he needs to pinpoint the official vWii IOS(s) at fault and reinstall them with a vWii compatible wad manager?

bluetailsfox11 DON'T DO THIS JUST YET. I'm just asking and also we're not sure which IOS(s) are at fault yet

Correct but BEFORE writing to the NAND.
MUST______ READ_____ NAND (said in a slow dying hollywood movie sense of the word)

yeah definately don't send it in, they likely won't help you. If they do decide to help you out, they will charge you quite a bit (your warranty is gone, because of homebrew etc). I'm sure this is something we can help you resolve :)

ok if I'm not around, here are your next steps:
make a copy of your original nand(you only ever want to read from the original nand) (call it something like working_original.bin)
make a copy of your current nand(call it something like working_current.bin)
Now make 2 directories/folders in the root directory of a drive(I'll assume it "c:" but it doesn't need to be)
one directory/folder named originalnand (so "c:\originalnand" )
one directory/folder named currentnand (so "c:\currentnand" )

use @JoostinOnline YABDM to dump the EVERY original IOS into a wad from the copy of your original nand (and don't patch anything) and place into originalnand directory/folder
use @JoostinOnline YABDM to dump the EVERY current IOS into a wad from the copy of your current nand(and don't patch anything) and place into currentnand directory/folder
Then do a md5 or sha1 of every file in both directories and post the results.(you can use something like the following)
If you are on windows, I like a program called exactfile(maybe others will have better suggestions) from:
http://www.exactfile.com/downloads/
http://www.exactfile.com/files/ExactFile-Setup.exe
If you used exactfile choose "Create Digest" and make sure "Include subfolders" and "Output to file:" are both checked. Then select by "Method and Format" either "MD5" or "sha1"(or "sha1sum").
or you can use the standard fc (file compare) command from a command prompt to list the differences. You can use wildcards to speed the process up(example "fc /b /v c:\originalnand\*.* c:\currentnand\*.*" without quotes) (the "/b" and "/v" options are binary and verify.) You can even redirect output of file compare(fc) to a file(example "fc /b /v c:\originalnand\*.* c:\currentnand\*.* > pick_a_good_filename.txt" without quotes).

Again when finished post the results.

oops hang on:
YABDM is run on the vWii (so you can use it with the current nand to check validity of pc program). But,you need a program for pc (that extracts exact copies of unmodified IOS's without signing/resigning them or tainting them in ANY way).
shortcut to current version(r26) of YABDM is http://bluedump-mod.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/HBC/

Also it would be nice to know which vWii program is screwing with official Nintendo IOS's.

We need a reliable pc extraction program (that is not too complicated for most). I mean technically we could mount the NAND in something like wiifuse and extract the parts of the IOS but too complicated).
both:
https://code.google.com/p/showmiiwads/source/list
https://code.google.com/p/showmiiwads-mod/source/list
haven't been updated in ages (well before WiiU release)

Sorry, but how to I dump original IOS into a wad? Like with what program?

Depending on your OS, you can use 1 of the programs from https://code.google.com/p/showmiiwads-mod/downloads/list
But we need to add a couple of more steps because I cannot be sure showmiiwads-mod is accurate(for vWii or otherwise).
So:
1 use @JoostinOnline YABDM to dump the EVERY current IOS into a wad from the vWii's current NAND(and don't patch anything) and place onto SD(or usb)
2 use showmiiwads-mod (on pc) to extract current IOS's (ALL of them) from your recent NAND dump into a directory/folder named currentnand (so "c:\currentnand" ).
3 compare(or MD5/SHA1 the 2 directories (sd/usb and "c:\currentnand"). IF identical we can mostly like trust showmiiwads-mod NOT to screw up the extraction from a COPY of your ORIGINAL NAND and we can continue to use the "c:\currentnand" to continue to test against.
4 use showmiiwads-mod (on pc) to extract ORIGINAL IOS's (ALL of them) from a copy of your ORIGINAL NAND dump into a directory/folder named originalnand (so "c:\originalnand" ).

then continue with testing "c:\originalnand" against "c:\currentnand" and posts the results
