Now, I know that I can't just go around asking for translators, but I figured I had nothing to lose.

Anyway, I would really really love for the game Princess Crown on PSP to be translated, because it's such a good game.

Not knowing much about translation, I don't know how easy it would be, but there are several already translated versions on the internet for the original Saturn version.
1.) http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=15979.0
2.)http://web.archive.org/web/20080304...ang.com/princesscrown/pcrown/translation.html

Any reasons why this may or may not be viable would be appreciated - I'm fine with being shot down.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a spiritual predecessor to Dragon's Crown, another great 2d game, which is why it's so similar.

If I'm not mistaken, it is mentioned that from the Saturn translation one could go straight to the PSP one and get it done quickly, so it's best to support the first idea :)

You'd be shot down if this was the DS section :P
Alrighty, seriously there should be a thread where all of these questions should go.
Leaving the threads about the games "Princess Crown" begging-free and discussing aspects of gameplay until someone tries some text replacing with the game and project is started, or I think so. Begging/requesting this stuff is never productive.

Well!
No English-version translations in patch form exist for any Princess Crown version. (Maybe Chinese?)
English Saturn project dropped. Recently new English project for Saturn version, going nicely.
French folks are trying to translate PSP one on their own.
Atlus US rep lied. PSP version has new coding, it's a remake of the Saturn version.
StorMyu said in the RHDN thread for the Saturn version he could help with exporting their work for the PSP version.
Some sort of drama happened and seems like the Saturn translators (absent at the time of said drama) didn't even notice or reply back for some unfathomable reason.

I looked at Princess Crown on the PSP long ago. At the time, I didn't really know exactly what I was doing, but I had a good enough idea to come to the conclusion that it wasn't going to be likely.

Quickly reviewing the files now, I pretty much agree with my conclusion back then - it doesn't look like it's possible. Or at least, if it is, it won't be easy. Game text isn't found in any of the files. Even during run-time, I can't find any instance of any text in RAM, so their method of text display is unorthodox.

I can't find any image files easily either, so I really made zero progress on figuring out how the game works.

If someone figures out how the game displays text, then that's at least a starting point, but I gave up.

This sounded a bit... Harsh?

I'm sure justfuit did what he could. This is a game that for years ppl have been trying to translate via hacking (mainly the Sega Saturn version), if it were easy they would have done this years ago... Believe me.

My recommendation would be to use the (pretty nice) translated walkthrough by text that you can find easily.

Actually they made huge progress: http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=15979.120

And as far as I know (as I digged that up half a year ago and actually was able to change textes in dialogues, so you can believe me) EVN files are absolutely same files that were used in Saturn version. So once guys complete hacking Saturn, someone could just take EVN files, replace item names in eboot (not sure if in eboot, but seems there), change font and voila - PSP English version ready. Probably also need VFW hack, as I believe it was fixed-width characters, but it is not really essential.
