Hello,

I don't normally post much around here, but I had a question. I had asked this before but decided to retype it since that was a few months back.
I bought a few mini DVD-r discs to burn backups of GameCube games I had ripped with CleanRip, and for some reason my Wii randomly won't read them correctly.

At random times, or even at the startup of the game it will say Disc Read Error, and I will have to eject the disc and re-insert it. It usually then fixes the problem, but then after loading things a bit longer it happens again. If I remember correctly I burned them at the lowest possible (2x?), and these discs are Sony Mini DVD-Rs. I did notice on the case of them that they say they are "100x More Scratch Resistant." Could this coating be preventing the Wii from reading them?

If these discs won't work in the Wii correctly, would they work in a modchipped GameCube?
Also, I heard that burning them at lower speeds means a more quality burn and less time reading the disc from the Wii, is this true?

And one more thing (sorry), someone said on a forum a while back that DVD-R backups in a Wii will lower the lifetime of the drive itself, is this true?

why dont you play by SD or USB with DML, Devolution or Nintendont, if you can play games by DVD that means you got the white version, i recomend you to play by SD or USB, you wont waste your money in mini DVDs

Thanks! I actually use Dios Mios mostly now anyway, was just wondering about the discs.
I think my drive can only burn at a minimum of 2x.

Lol any chance you could tell me how to get DIOS MIOS? I tried but the games wont load and the screen turned black

From my personal experience, Sony discs are junk in terms of console use. Try using higher quality media such as Verbatim or TDK

Are you using the latest version of Neogamma with d2x cIOS v8 installed?

Sony discs should be fine, make sure you are verifying the burn with your burning software. That will let you know if you have a bad burn or bad disc. Don't multi task while burning your disc, and burning at 4x is the best.

Maybe your Wii is having a problem with the mini DVD, try using full size dvd's to see if your problem goes away.

Today, the only good discs left on the market are the Verbatim with Azo dye and Taiyo Yuden, all the rest are crap. If the Sony discs don't work for you then try one of the brands that I mention. TDK may have been good at one time, like when TDK 2x and 4x discs were manufactured, the TDK 8x and 16x speed discs are crap.

Sony might not have even manufactured the discs you have. Any good burning software should be able to identify the disc manufacturer. Right now I have some Sony 16x discs that were manufactured by Ritek, and I also have some Sony 8x discs that were manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. Back in the day Sony used to manufacturer their own discs, back when quality came first before money, today it's more about the money rather that the quality.
