Installing Dios-Mios or Forwarders can brick your wii because im scared to install wiiflow forwarder and dios mios. Someone please tell me(also if i put it in wrong section please someone move it)
First, don't follow old tutorials randomly. it's more dangerous to follow outdated tutorials than installing wads to your wii.
Installing DIOS MIOS wad is not dangerous (as long as you are sure it's DIOS MIOS and not something else), as there's no banner animation (so you can't "banner brick"), and that IOS is not loaded at console launch.
Of course, installing anything to the Wii is dangerous, if something bad happen (electricity cut, corrupted NAND, etc.)
But it's true for official channel installation from eshop too.
You don't need hermes v5 or cIOS rev20
Current latest cIOS is "cIOS d2x v10" and "cIOS d2x v10-alt".
If a wad manager asks you to choose a IOS, it's also an old wad manager.
Now, managers don't need cIOS anymore to install Wads to the wii.
If you want to install a Wad for USBLoaderGX, install the forwarder Wad (named "UNEO"), don't install the full channel (named "UNLR").
The full channel is too old.
The forwarder channel lets you launch the USBLoaderGX program located on your SD card. This way, you can easily update the program on your SD card without reinstalling the channel every time.
You will need to install cIOS'es, preferably latest ones. I also suggest switching from NTFS to FAT32 - NTFS support is buggy and experimental at best. Wii Backup Manager will split any images over 4GB for you anyways.
That's odd. Is it Windows restricting you from formatting it to FAT32? Wii Backup Manager should do it just fine unless the drive is larger than 2TB. Yes, you will need to install cIOS, regardless of which filesystem you use, I'm just recommending FAT32 because using NTFS might cause unexpected issues.the problem is i cant format it to fat32. so i can play ntfs games or i still need to install ciosx d2x sorry for ANNOYINGNESS BECAUSE IM THAT TYPE
i guess i need to
