Hacking Are you going to buy WiikeÜ or waiting for Wii U homebew ?

I just want the common key so we can decrypt games, not only for better compression of releases, but for the more important task of actually inspecting games. This would mean the beginnings of mods (still need homebrew to run them), actually good quality music rips, as well as the ability to search for unused stuff. It seems that isn't going to happen for a while though

I can understand that a soft mod can bypass a region lock, but how can a hard mod do that?

I don't know all the information as to how exactly it'd work but the original WiiKey also by-passed Region Locking on the Wii.
If it does not support region free this device becomes pointless for many users who are just looking for a way around region locking, which is more than you'd initially think. Region Locking is a real annoyance to a lot of people especially to those who buy a system then move to a different region and have to buy everything digitally or wait months after a game is out in the region they live in now to be able to play it on their system.

I have money spare today to pre-order one, But first Id like to see some POC video of them actually loading WiiU ISO's from a HDD. I do believe they can do it, Just not enough to be putting my money down just yet. But I'm willing to bet that they wont release the WiikeyU until late 2014 - Early 2015.

I have it preordered. I also preferred the hard mod with the original Wii. They generally have more complete compatibility with GC/Wii games. It also wasn't tied to software/firmware updates.

I have put my order in for one today but I have ordered @Teensy and paid by post dated cheque. I know it sounds a bit mad but I have thought about it very hard and at least with a post dated cheque if anything goes wrong in the mean time with WiiKey in between the date of release there is no worries my end the cheque will just get ripped up but if I had paid by Debit Card then the monies would go straight out and I would have to sort out a refund on it which I would not be happy about messing about with. The good thing about Teensy.co.uk they are very flexible and helpful with payment methods! So I was very happy

This isn't totally true. When Mario Galaxy came out it had a new firmware that blocked out the WiiKey resulting in an "authorized device" message appearing when you played the game. #001 (?) I think was the error code, maybe it was #002. It was a very low number anyway.

This was fixed later on though. I don't remember the time scale, does anyone else?

My Gateway Card took 3 days but I don't know about the WiiKeyU until it comes in between July and August but soon as they have it should take 1- 3 days, so they say. But I was very unsure paying Debit card in case something went wrong within the time. Anything could happen, WiiKey could go under, Teensy could go under, who knows???, then you would be down some monies.

Does anyone know if this device will be able to enable "Region Free" and say be able to play a JPN ISO on a NTSC or PAL system?

I've seen little to zero specification listing this and it's naturally just assumed because of how the original WiiKey was and enabled such functionality. I'm guessing, because of the fact this is made by the team that brought us the original WiiKey and how fantastic of a device that was for it's time when it came out that this functionality will be in the newer editions as it would be expected from such a 'Quality product', but would appreciate clarification on this before I decide to actually purchase one.

It's frustrating they're allowing pre-orders right now yet they have said little to nothing about what this device can actually do right now besides read ISO's from a USB device. Whilst this is the main thing most people want to know - region free is the biggest issue for a lot of people, myself included, when it comes to titles we want to play that never come to our shores or languages we can read and speak that we shouldn't have to wait for a translation for 5 countries in our territory for.

The first one is sort of a two ended way it can be taken, however. It says it works with all WiiU consoles from all regions, but makes no mention as to whether it's cross compatible between regions.

I'm hoping closer to release they show the manual and we'll know for sure if it is region free. Region free plays a huge factor into buying one of these things for a lot of people as I said earlier - it's the main reason a lot of people, before homebrew existed, bought a WiiKey for their Wiis - especially around the time that Super Smash Bros. Brawl came out - they sold very quickly when the freeloader got patched too.

Hopefully sometime soon it gets explicitly said if it's totally region-free for iso's or not.

"Works on all regions" means just that: the device works on Wii Us regardless of region. It's an optical drive emulator. All it does is pretends to be your real optical drive. It accept commands from the Wii U and translates/reacts to them as necessary. If the WiikeyU allowed you to play games from different regions, it would be the biggest selling point -- even people that don't like "undocumented backups" would be standing in line to buy.

Well it seems like it will be another "a la carte" DONGLE.
estimated list prices(based on 3k3y original launch prices:
Pay 150 get the wiikeyu
Pay 30-50 get extra hardware to dump wiiu disc on pc(so you need a pc)
Pay 40-50 gets you a remote display/lcd.
Pay 40-50 gets you a WiFi USB Dongle
Remote control?

If you got all that for under 100 it MIGHT be worth it.

A 150 dollars to get the WiiKeyU ?? No thanks. They are doing it for their profits. I will wait for someone to found other solution just PS3 for no cost. I do not mind if it is 50 dollars or less. WiiKeyU team is silly.
