So its the same method, but with the current firmware and you just drag and drop on a exfat card?
Yes. You drag and drop your .3ds files onto the MicroSD card. The MicroSD can be formatted either as fat32 or exfat. The disadvantage of fat32 is that it doesn't support files over 4GB, so you won't be able to have games bigger than 4 GB on the card.
Then you boot into Gateway mode as usual and once in the Home Menu, you press Select to select one of the games on your MicroSD card. The game will be "inserted" then, so to speak, which allows you to start it up.
When playing the game, if you exit to Home Menu, a .sav (savegame) file will be written to the MicroSD card with the same name as the .3ds file SD card in the 3DS, with the Game ID as the filename.

nope the save will be written to the big SD card in the 3DS, and will be named using the games "gameID" not the rom file name, so saves will be stored with file names like
00040000000D9000.sav
00040000000EC400.sav

not very intuitive, but you can search the code here to find out what game it is for

sweet! So, if i want to pick a new game, do i exit using the home button, then hit select again to bring up the menu?

yeah just close the current game, X then A or by just selecting close on the touch screen, then you can just press select and the multi rom menu will come up on the top screen to choose your game

What? But I have them on my MicroSD card... I just checked now to make sure.

No. Gateway.
i just had another check just to make sure there wasn't some sort of new save method if you had never played the game before, and nope all games(except nand saving) are saved on the normal SD card in the 3DS, not the gateway micro SD, and they are all still named using the gameID

Well, this is something I can't quite fathom, but apparently it's different from how I experience it. I'll edit my post.

I've done some research on my card, and it appears I have save files on both the MicroSD card and the normal SD card. However, only the save files on the normal SD card appear to be up to date.
How those save files got on my MicroSD card in the first place, I don't know...

Hi buddy, this is my first post. I have the multi rom support, and all I did was format it to ExFat and drag them over. I heard that sometimes it fucks up if you erase roms and put them back on, so if you are editing your cartridge.... do it on a folder on your computer, then when you are ready to write, dump it all at once. So if you have 10 games and you want to take one out and add another, delete all 10 then replace all 10.

I haven't had any problems, except sometimes the usual bug of throwing you out of gateway mode - then the emunand save games like pokemon dont save.. To avoid that, just make sure to run the exploit every time you launch the game to be sure to be in gateway mode. Basically every time you quit a game - it leaves gateway mode. So any time you hit "close software", you gotta re-run the blue card thing again.

Don't be afraid... you're not gonna brick anything. Just don't ever update your system from pop ups - cause like i said, it throws you out of emunand sometimes and if it asks to update, it will update your real shit.

As far as I understand, and I may be wrong... but when you use Emunand (gateway mode), it saves the saves onto the micro SD. If you use games that dont use Nand to save (most games, except pokemon X, animal crossing etc) then they save to regular SD.

When you go into gateway mode, you are basically telling the system that you are running your system from the cartridge, so im not surprised that those games save there.

you might of backed them up on there at some point or used the micro SD in the 3DS at some point :P

a lot of that is wrong, you only ever have to run the blue card again if you run a NDS game or edit some system settings like your console language or nickname etc

also the only time you ever get kicked out of emunand is if you go into system settings then exit, just exiting a game keeps you in emunand

yeah, its really easy. you just drag it... the secret button is "select" to select between multiroms. So once you launch the exploit, after you put in the red card, you hit "Select" the button on your 3DS, and it will pop up a secret menu for you to switch between roms. When you pick a rom, only then will it be loaded into the game slot.

I don't think ive ever seen so much misinformation in the same thread, let alone in a single post. This max person reeks of 12yo l33t h4x0r who knows everything.

You're tripping... do you know how long it took me to figure out a pattern to play Pokemon with a consistent save? Keep saying it never throws you out.... Any time you hit "close game" it throws you out.

Also, how come every time you quit game then go back to settings, it says 4.4?? then tahts not emunand. and if you try to re-load into gateway mode without switching back to blue card, it gives you "ERROR: turn off the system and go fuck yourself" so yeah, keep spreading misinformation sir. This is my 3rd or something post.

well these are issues down to you/your set up, have you trimmed your pokemon rom? if so that will be why you have messed up any chance of getting your save backed up as the save is wrote inside the rom file, if you trim the rom you have kinda messed it up...it does save but idk where, i think it just ends up writing it to a random bit of the SD card which could be overwrote at any point if you copy more files on the micro SD card

also you only ever go to system settings if you intend to update or want to get kicked out of emunand.....basically it sounds like the SD card in your 3DS is screwed up.

I've gotta agree here with gamesquest11.

Pressing -> Home -> Close game DOES NOT KICK YOU OUT FROM EMUNAND.

I do that to play other games or other saves and GTS myself and whatever not.

I have never encountered a bug that kicks me out of emunand.

So far, the only thing that kicks you out of Emunand is ENTERING and EXITING SYSTEM SETTINGS.

I've used a "folder system" (renaming folders) to identify which mode I'm in.

Also, you only ever have to run the blue card again if you run a NDS game or changing NDS settings are completely accurate.

I haven't had to use my DStwo to load the installer, and I've been powering down by 3DS a lot.

Need me to post a video, when so many posts on gbaTEMP already mentions the above points?

If you are entering such errors, perhaps you should reformat both your SD cards.

Just because yours is buggy doesn't mean he's spreading misinformation.

The fact that mine works perfectly like his, strongly points to yours having some form of software or hardware issue.

My specs of my 3DS:

USA 3DS XL, on FW 4.5, emunand on 7.0 (didn't update to latest).
Uses DStwo as loader (though I've haven't had to use it for a very long time)

I see that yours is 4.4. Not that it is proven to be different, maybe that's the reason you get kicked out?

The only other explanation is your emunand or sd cards are corrupted.

EDIT:

I'm editing based on this quote I've seen from you:

I have the multi rom support, and all I did was format it to ExFat and drag them over. I heard that sometimes it fucks up if you erase roms and put them back on, so if you are editing your cartridge.... do it on a folder on your computer, then when you are ready to write, dump it all at once. I had to do that troublesome method, and it indeed fucked up, when I was using a Class 4 SD card.

Now that both my emunand and GW Sd are Class 10, I've stopped facing those issues.

Also, my GW SD is on Exfat, just pointing my specs out.

thanks for the long reply Queno, i am class 10 as well.

Also, i am having no unknown or different issues from anyone else on emunand 7.2....

Like I said, my system's behavior is no different from yours. You haven't said anything different. My interpretation of what happens may be different, but essentially the same shit.

Only issues i have is
> cant get online with roms
> cant get into nintendo zone

and you're saying you can get into nintendo zone with a 3DS 4.4-4.5 and emunand 7.2???

I'm also on emunand 7.2, never gotten kicked out of emunand after exiting a game. Never had issues with Pokemon not saving either using the home+X method. Do you have a visual indicator set up to differentiate between your sysnand and emunand? I don't think you're actually getting kicked out, you're kicking yourself out and blaming the gateway for your own ignorance.

As for going online, have you injected a uniqueid into your rom using a hex editor? Did you even rename them to .3DZ?

no i dont have a visual indicator... how do i do that?

And youre probably right, im probably kicking myself out. Either way, i can blame the gateway for user unfriendlyness.

I dont care about any of this shit. All i want is nintendo zone..... help me... help you.. SHOW ME THE MONEY
