Hacking Gateway Omega 2.2 Question

Hi guys,

With the new gateway 2.2 version, it now has multirom support, so do we just drag and drop all the games we want to play onto the Micro SD and and it will work? When you save each game, do you just do it normally in game and it will work even if you play more than one game?

If you play different games with different Micro SD cards, when you save one game, will it be overwritten when you save on another game? (I'm not sure if there's only allowed 1 save file per DS?)

Micro SD has to be FAT32 or exFat formated. A unique save file is created for each title.

So as long as the Micro SD card is FAT32 formatted, more than one game can be played and each game will be saved normally? Thanks!
 
More specifically you can have files larger than 4gb with ExFAT. FAT32 does support larger guile system sizes, but not large files :)


Oh so to have multiple game files on a Micro SD card that exceed 4GB, it should be exfat. And then everything should be okay in terms of gameplay and saves like using the home + X?

You can have multiple games on a MicroSD in either format but if you are wanting to play a game that has a file size of over 4GB, you need it formatted to exfat.

So just format the card to EXfat and drag and drop all the games onto the card? i have a 32gb card and one or two are over 4gb.

Also, is there an updated guide for a brand new never used gateway and installing omega 2.2 and first time set up?
 
you can pretty much follow the video tutorial on the site, but where they write roms with win32diskimager, just format the SD to exfat and copy and paste them on....also remember to press select to choose your game on the main menu....they are the only differences

You can't use "A" to start the game?
 
....press select to open the multi rom menu.....you still start it as per normal but until you select a game from the multi rom menu by pressing select no game will show on the menu.....before multi rom as it was only a single game, naturally it didn't need you to select a game
 
and keep in mind you can trim any rom (excluding .3dz, of course), thus you won´t have any disadvantage with FAT32. Are there even games using 8 GByte romsize yet? Anything up to 4 GByte fits naturally onto FAT32, and those 8 GByte monsters - once they exist - can be splitted. I´m running fine with FAT32.
 
I'd do fat32 over exfat though. Just split the roms.

With exfat (no matter what I did - Dragging one at a time, all at once, etc) I still got some "fragmentation error". So I'd go the fat32 route if I were you.

And I use exfat just fine with no errors at all. Maybe your card is faulty.

You don't need that home+X stuff anymore. When you save in game it saves right then (that's what they mean by "real time save" even if "RTS" usually means save states on DS cards). Some games (NAND saving ones like Pokeymans or AC, or converted eshop/VC stuff) save right to the ROM on your sdmicro, while the rest (most games) each create their own save file on your 3DS's big sd card.

nope it doesn't, turns out the real time saving isn't anything like what we expected(or isn't actually implemented still) the only thing it seems to of enabled is the save transferring to SD if you shut down the console, the save are still not transferred to the SD card in "real time" this has caught lots of people out when leaving their 3ds to run flat

the only games that do have real time saving is nand saving games i.e pokemon and animal crossing

Nope. It's not. Keep doing what you're doing on exFAT and that error is bound to pop up. It took a LONG time for the error to occur, but once it started, it became a bitch.

I can vouch for this. I was unpleasantly surprised when I saw I lost 6 days of game progress because I trusted my savegame was properly on my microSD card. Turns out you still need to properly close the game to get it to properly save the savegame.

Oh okay so even if you switch games, the save files shouldn't be disrupted/overwritten cos there's a save file for each game safely stored?

That's correct. To switch games, you need to exit to the Home Menu first. Once you exit to the Home Menu, the save file will be written to the MicroSD card.

So its the same method, but with the current firmware and you just drag and drop on a exfat card?
