Could you define "almost complete"? To my knowledge, we still have one helluva road ahead of us. We're constantly told of things that happen behind the scenes, PMs are sent back and forth between anonymous people or what have you, and yet, not a damn thing has changed. The Wii U scene is in a catatonic state as far as I'm concerned.

as far as im concered you constantly have something negative to say. but the thing is you clearly understand less then the likes of me. why is it you think theres a massive road ahead??? what because the exploit hasnt been handed to you yet?? sorry for the rant but you are one annoyin negative person. i wouldnt mind you being negative if you had some knowlegde on the subjects here

That's a motion of discovery for a restraining order, not the lawsuit. Sony sued him after he released the exploit, as you can see by the dates.

At any rate, I don't care if you delete or close this thread. I only posted it because I knew somebody else would. I actually even have a private message that predicted what would happen to this post, if/when I posted it on GBAtemp, before I even posted it. I expect as much as the OP to be butchered here.
In terms of flow of time, yes. In terms of basic common sense, no. Do you actually think that a global conglomerate asked a court to issue a restraining order for giggles? No, of course not, the lawsuit was planned already at that point, they just had to collect the appropriate material and file the right documentation, that's why they wanted him restrained - to stop the man in his tracks before he inevitably leaks something even more sensitive and flees to Godknowswhereistan in South Whereveresia. :rofl2:

None of us want the temp getting shut down, and posting the key gives a chance for Nintendo to shut it down. So why take a chance? Anyone who wants it can easily get it....

This information is literally one Google search away, GBATemp is indeed not the channel to share this form of information, this goes beyond the simple level of what's legal and what isn't or what can get the site shut down and what's perfectly safe. We have a strict rule stating that no copyrighted material can be posted on the site and the keys are a part of the Wii U system which is copyrighted, so by extension so are the keys, its integral part, and it doesn't matter if they were randomized or pre-set - the Wii U in and out of itself is considered original work and so are the keys inside of it. If we were to be lenient in this case, we might as well start sharing serials for software - those too are randomized. I'd love to see the reaction to those being posted. I'm really sorry if this rustles anyone's jimmies, but you're absolutely right Ericthegreat.

exciting stuff! one more step closer. i really hope updating yesterday doesn't bite me in the ass
crediar mentioned that one of the exploits (one in the web browser) has been patched by the recent update so it may take you one step backwards unless the system is blown apart to the point the Wii was last generation. I wouldn't worry though - full-blown hacks will come in due time. The period between the release of a system and an effective exploits gradually gets longer and longer as the systems become more and more secure, but no matter how complex they'll get there will always be an exploit to be found - nothing is perfect. Patience is a virtue. ;)

No hard feelings. I'm sure you have the best intentions. You don't seem to be spiteful, unlike some.

The actual functions we use were moved and/or changed, we need the addresses to be able to use them, but the bug to get code execution is still there, for now at least.

crediar and I both later mentioned that while the exploit does not work anymore, the WebKit bug that the exploit is based on still exists. It's being worked on so it can be ported to 5.0.0.

Can anyone clarify why these keys don't actually match up to the hashes provided by fail0verflow in that old write-up? I find that a bit odd

That's good news, and there I got worried that it perished with the update. Keep up the good work. :yayu:

I tried to generate the SHA1 hash of the published WiiU Espresso ancast key, and get this hash: 7c53e653f2b9d63dd3f162de01b3ce3168e15028 which doesn't match f0f's SHA1 (2ba6f692ddbf0b3cd267e9374fa7dd849e80f8ab) of the same key. What am I doing wrong?

It may be that I am running the SHA1 of the ASCII representation of the key, perhaps it should be of the hex version of the string.

Edit: confirmed, when transformed into actual hex, the SHA1 matches f0f!

Again, you're hashing the key as a string, not the key as actual hex.

emphasis on "annoying".

Excellent, thank you!
