I am new to the ps3 hacking and to this website so I wanted some help. Lets assume that my ps3 is hackable, so, what would I be able to do if I hack it? like... Would I be able to run ps1 or ps2 games even if my ps3 model doesn't have backwards compability (through a hard drive maybe)? Which emulators would I be able to run (like psp, ps vita, or maybe a Nintendo console)? Would I be able to run ps3 games through a hard drive? and what else...

I know this question is probably asked a lot but I didnt't find any thread that could explain me well. So can anyone answer me or direct me to a well explained thread. Thank you...

You can run PS1 games on your PS3 already, all PS3's can do that with original discs. With CFW you can run them from backup discs or ISO's, though.

PS2 you can run on CFW'd non-backwards compatible PS3, but it's got more compatibility issues. You convert them to PS2 classics and there's probably a topic or tutorial around here somewhere with more detail. The games I've tried have all worked pretty well, but I've only tried about a half dozen or so.

Yes ou can run PS3 games from a hard drive. The internal PS3 drive is best, but most games will also run from USB drives.

Thanks for the info. I am gonna look for a ps2 compatibility list... and what about emulators? i believe there's a psp one, but is there any other else? Is there a Nintendo 64 emulator or any other emulator of Nintendo's consoles?

Look at ps3scenefiles for all the emulators. You can convert psp games to a pkg file to install on your cfw ps3. It's called PSPtoPS3 I believe. Similar to how to works with the ps2 classics tool above user was telling you about. Same goes for ps1 games using PS1toPS3.

There is an n64 emulator I believe but it's garbage. I think it wasn't even released because it was so awful.

thanks, it's a shame about the 64 emulator but I'm looking forward to the PSPtoPS3... One last thing, Where can I download the ps3 games? do they have to be patched or in certain type of file like ISOS? And how do I backup the games from the pc to the internal hard drive? Is it a simple process?

Lol sorry no piracy talk allowed. But I can answer the rest...Backups are either made in folder form (like with multiman). And some are ISO. You can convert folder form to iso with a homebrew tool though. There are also pkg files. Those are PSN games. And just to clarify homebrew ps3 apps use the .pkg file extension too so you'll know how to install them (using the built in "package installer" in cfw systems).

But disc game backups just have to be in your GAMES folder either on external drive or internal. I believe multiman creates these folders when you install it so you'll know the folder when you see it.

The only time you need to patch a game is if you're on lower firmware than the game requests and you don't want to update to a newer cfw. Then you'll need to try an eboot and paramsfo fix (there are homebrew Windows tools for this that makes it easy for anyone).

By the way: DO NOT UPDATE WITH A DISC OR DISC BACKUP. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR HACK!

You can transfer files to internal drive either with an FTP ps3 app (like Blackbox) or you can put games on an external drive (formatted to fat32) then transfer them from external to internal using multiman's file manager.

Google well help you if that seems a bit too confusing

Thanks a lot! i think i got it... and sorry I didn't know that piracy was forbidden here (I joined today actually lol). I have decided to go through all the hacking process even considering that there will be no PSN nor online gaming :( i think it's worthy enough!
