Mozilla Firefox, along with a Chinese company who made the Spreadtrum chip is planning to release the cheapest smartphone, costing only 25$ with their own system, FireFox OS.
It seems they wanna break the record for the cheapest smartphone ever sold.

watch it being cheap ass shit for only 25

Probably.
However there is an increasing body of thought which says that phones have gone as far as they are likely to for more people (so very little reason to upgrade these days) and the old stock/hardware is starting to go cheap it means someone could come in an clear up.

Anyway I am curious enough to pay attention to this.

That is literally the entire point of this. A cheap ass "smart phone" for people who don't want to spend hundreds on something they'll only use for texts/calls and maybe the occasional email. Good job on hitting the nail on the head.

Not a very promising outlook so far, but mostly due to the screen. The spec sheet is around the first gen iPhone, which makes it relatively useful. 5 years ago.

As long as FireFox OS isn't based on Android, I'm cool with it. From what I've seen in Chinese wholesale knockoffs, the Spreadtrum chipsets run Android like shit.

I'm aware that this isn't really aimed at the US markets, but anyone with access to eBay could still find a better phone around the same price if they're willing to put up with a couple scratches or dings. The specs are almost identical to my nearly four year old budget Android phone, and I picked up a nearly mint Samsung Captivate Glide for only $10 more (although despite being a 1Ghz dual-core, the Tegra 2 is probably one of the shittiest chipsets in a name-brand Android phone)

this thing better have a RAM of 9751738777GB...... because _SHITS_ going to leak like a bad case of diarrhea.

Tell me about it. I ditched Firefox when it kept freezing on Youtube or any flash player videos but the audio kept playing. I know they probably fixed it by now but after using Chrome as a temporary replacement, it's now become my default browser.

I would never buy anything that are made in china. China made me sick!
You must not buy electronics then. :P

I love the idea of this product except the lack of Android compatibility. For about $50 more, you can get a cheap Android phone with Tracfone service ($7 a month) and accomplish the aims of this device approximately well.

I guess you don't have many electronics at home then? B-)

Very funny. I have a beautiful living room and bedroom. Yes, I believe that I do have several things made in china. I wasn't paying any attention until I realised too late. Right now, I am being cautious to not buy anything that are made in china. I am being wise now.

Unless you start building things yourself or going to things like farmers markets...you're guaranteed basically all of your stuff will be made in China.
That's how things are, you cannot avoid it unless you avoid technology altogether.
