Over the past few days I've noticed the "x" button on my PSP isn't clicking as naturally as it once did. It's gotten to the point it's become almost unbearable. I suppose this was caused from the mashing of that button from a particular game I was playing recently. Anyways I'm considering trading in the PSP, buying a Vita, and have a few questions:

-once the Vita PSP mode is hacked can the Vita play all psx eboot files?
-are there any compatibility issues with certain psp games?
-do the SNES and GBA emulators work as well with the Vita as they do with the PSP?

Essentially I'm curious if PSP games, eboot files and emulators experience drawbacks while being used with a Vita, as opposed to a PSP. Thanks.

PS: with the OLED screen do PSP games, PSX eboots and emulator graphics receive a visual boost?

PSX games via POPS are a little bit tricky, sound often doesn't work at all on eCFW, but it's a work-in-progress as far as I know. The rest works perfectly fine - in fact, it works a little bit better due to the extra horsepower of the system.

there is no telling if and when vita mode will be unlocked and what can be done when/if that happens
the psp/ps1 game can run fine (if you BUY them off the PSN, some games need a ps3 to get them on the vita)

just know
you CAN NOT UNLOCK the vita psp mode, now that all game form know exploits have been fix/removed form the PSN

the emulators work fine but some might not work some do
http://wololo.net/emulators-for-the-psp-ps-vita-the-ultimate-download-list/

http://wololo.net/ is a good site for vita hack and info on what works well

i think the game look fine, graphics do NOT matter that much to me
if i can play the game it is fine

Why is it beyond the realm of possibility for another game to be discovered on PSN which can unlock PSP mode?

I personally recommend getting a Nvidia Shield. You be able to emulate everything up to psp (No Ps2, and gamecube doesnt work well atm) with increased internal resolution and filters. That is, if your objective is emulating. If you are actually interested in the games that the Vita supports, then go with the Vita. :)

I was reading the emulation compatibility review for Nvidia Shield and it really didn't seem that impressive. Is that the best portable emulation option available? And how does this compare to the Zero in terms of emulation?

I guess my big issue with these types of devices is that the support when they're initially released is fairly good, and then dries up quickly once a more powerful option is available. They don't seem to have the longevity of support that the PSP had.

Any directions online on how to do this? I'd be nervous to do that myself but i might know someone who'd be capable of handling a couple like that (provided the directions were detailed enough).

for that model i think you cant clean it but you can replace the the circuit for the afected buttons. (on fats a simple removal of the face plate and cottonn swab on the buton contact would be sufficient)

with a bit of googling found this disassemble guide that looks fine imo.
http://www.powerbookmedic.com/manual.php?id=117

the repalcement part maybe checheapest you can find is on ebay or some wholesale chinese vendors.

Longevity is one thing the Shield has imo. If you want to, I can make a video showing Ps1/Psp/Dreamcast/N64 games being played 100% 60/60 fps. So compared to the Zero this can emulate ps1 and many other emulators perfectly with Anti-aliasing + texture scaling + shadersand many other features. Also, it has almost perfect psp (While every game runs at full speed on the shield, some games still have graphical glitches which is most likely due to the emulator itself and not the device.) emulation which i dont think the Zero has.

Imo, at the moment the shield is the best portable emulation device available hands down.

Do you have a listing of which psp games suffer from glitches. also you stated psx, n64 and dreamcast run at 100 percent efficiency. does this mean every single game on the system runs without audio or video or framerate issues. i'd definetly be impressed if that were the case for dreamcast and n64, especially conkers bad fur day. also how is gba and snes compatibility in comparison to psp.

by the way is it possible to handle n64 emulation perfectly because of all the buttons the n64 controller had.

One game that I can think of is Ace Combat. Hangar cannot be displayed but if you manage to select a fighter, the rest all works fine. And again, the emulator is fairly new, this all is being fixed very quickly.

Regarding the Psx/n64/Dreamcast, every game i tested worked 60/60 100%. You will only see slowdowns if you apply Texture scaling 4x or higher. Conkers bad fur day runs at 100% with 2x resolution. Reicast (Dreamcast emulator) is a fairly new emulator that came out in december but it already runs a lot of games almost perfectly (Sonic adventure 1 / Crazy taxi 1 and 2 work perfectly).

Again, if it comes down to the power of the Shield itself (Tegra 4) it should be able to emulate everything up to gamecube with ease. Emulators just need to be worked on (There is already a Gamecube emulator but it doesnt run good yet). Everything else below the GC can already be emulated with perfection. Look up Retroarch.

And yes, regarding the buttons, the shield has more than enough buttons to cover it.

Dpad + 2 analogs + R1L1/R2L2.

Is retroarch the best option for N64, Dreamcast, PSP and PSX? Or would you recommend individual emulators for some of them? Also I read about retroarch no longer being available for download because of copyright infringement complaints. Is there a way around this problem?

It was taken down in the past because it used an image of a game in the app pictures on the playstore. The developers have already fixed that.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.retroarch

Personally I recommend Retroarch for everything but Disc based games. While it runs everything just fine, there are better emulators on the store for disc based games that have way more features (Wifi multiplayer, Cover support, higher quality shaders).

For Psx I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.epsxe.ePSXe

For psp I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ppsspp.ppsspp

For Dreamcast I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reicast.emulator

i noticed on a youtube video gta running really slowly on the psp emulator. do the less physically extensive games, like rpg's, run perfectly. also since the shield has 16 gigs of internal memory can i connect a usb stick to transfer files to the system itself.

getting quality n64 emulation would almost make the shield worth a puchase on its own. are there any n64 games you've tried on retroarch which have experienced frame rate or glitching issues. or is retroarch pretty much capable of running all n64 games as well as the console itself.

You mean this ? You have to understand that the device is not limited to speed hacks and what not like the psp was. The shield has plenty of power to be used still (Read about the Tegra 4). If there is a fault with a game, most likely its because the gfx plugins need some work. And again, the ppsspp has been making big progress this past year. Regarding memory, the shield has a microsd slot supports SDXC (I personally use a 64gb one).

Regarding the N64, retroarch is very customizable. N64 took me alot to get it to work well. So instead i am using this one now https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=paulscode.android.mupen64plus.free.

It has high quality shaders, and texture filtering and scaling. Makes games look like Dreamcast ones (Well, close enough :P)

My final point though, if you want a device to play emulators on you can't go wrong with the shield. It is the best portable emulator machine out in the market at the moment.

Another plus is being able to play android games with a good controller (GTA 3| Vice City | San Andreas).

So with the progress that the PSP emulator has made are there fewer and fewer games which aren't running at full speed? I get that GTA is pretty much the most resource intensive game on PSP, so I really don't mind it not being able to handle that well. As long as RPG's play well I would be content.

And with mupen64, after tweaking the settings to your liking, do you still experience framerate problems or issues of that nature. or is it pretty much as good as playing on an n64 itself.
