hey guys, I've been trying to play pokemon since the original release (red? blue? yellow?), but even to the latest 3DS release, I couldnt like it. I played monster breeding games (such as azure dream, monster rancher, dragon seeds, DQ monsters) and I thought I will like pokemon, turned out I cannot like it and probably will never will. care to explain what do you like from pokemon?

the first gen pokemon are the best but X and Y is still a good one too
I'm sorry what? Not to be dick, but gen 1 pokemon were rather plain and also unbalanced and broken.

Personally I just enjoy the games and always have, I played them since the old Red and Blue days.

For it's nice library of pokemon
Nice but slightly repetitive gameplay
Great music
Interesting evil leader intents (people tring to expand sea, land, create a new world, gain power, etc.
And its not call of duty. (Just kidding, cod is okay to me )

Back in the 16 bit wars... I was a SEGA guy (still do), so I missed a lot of great RPGs on the SNES. Could't afford two consoles, so I was stuck with my Mega Drive and it's great library of SHMUPs :).
Late 90s I bought a Game Boy, that was the time when the Pokemon anime first appeared in my country (1999), I had 10 years old. Being the new cool thing to watch, every kid was hook immediately (myself include), so one day I ask in my local video game store if they had a Pokemon game for the Game Boy, I didn't knew at the moment that Pokemon started as a Game Boy game, so they offered me a 21 in 1 pirate bootleg multicart with Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue included.

When I first played the game I remember thinking: "this is awesome! you can go anywhere you want!", I never played an RPG in my life.... so everything was new to me. I loved the game, it was my first RPG and it was so damn fun!
Back then, everyone was a Pokemon fan, you had games, anime, movies, trading cards, toys, all the cool things kids like. So it was like living in a little world of awesome.

To this day, Pokemon Red is my favorite game, if you was ask me why I would say because it's my first RPG. It opened me to a whole new genre that I never experienced before.
Also, my multicart only had the USA versions... so the little english that I happen to know, comes from playing Pokemon Red. I never went to study or anything, I just learn by playing RPGs. That's why my english is soooo shitty

If you play for the story you're playing for the wrong reason, which is unique for a japanese rpg. I play mainly due to it being a game with a pretty solid competitive metagame, and due to the giant "sidequest" feel that I get when trying to complete the Living Pokedex. The online features and multiplayer has been greatly improved since the DS days, and the online community is pretty cool.

I play it because it's an RPG where you catch monsters and fight them against other monsters while exploring a land.

That may not really be a unique concept anymore, but the Pokemon games are well-done.
Compare it to other games that are shorter or just not fleshed out. There's places to explore beyond the main story too.

There's a buttload of options when battling, unlike other jRPGs where you have a set party with set skills.

Because everyone like collecting something and Pokemon game have ton of thing to collect.
Further more, hunting is fun and those shiny pokemon is a good head on the wall.

II > IV > I > VI > V > III

You know it to be true.

The game's are just kinda simplified RPGs and if you're in an RPG mood without needing to absorb a fucking dictionary of mechanics and lore then Pokemon's got your fix.

Although X and Y were kinda disappointing.
