It wasn't meant to run on their own hardware or software (and still hasn't been proven it actually does and really can't be.) They did what they had to do to stop clones and those clones will sure take their time from now on before releasing new firmwares or if they can't decrypt the whole thing hopefully not release any firmware unless they make it.
What reason isn't there to? Still been using 2.02b every day now playing games and I don't see why all these people are complaining of bricks, it doesn't.
Why should they make new stuff if a different team is going to steal it the day after and say it's theirs? Take them out first.

But why not brick with a 100% certainty on modified launchers then? That way the cloners would have bricked their test consoles (assuming they do at least one testrun before they release), scratched their head and never released their copied versions.

Also software can and always will have bugs. Doesn't even have to be that mystical "high energy photon" that some like to blame. It's just not possible to test this type of code on every possible system in every possible state (e.g.: Nintys own firmware might have a bug that results in jumping to the location where the brick instructions are (which would usually be empty and just result in a freeze) on European 4.2 systems that have Streetpass data for the game Mario Kart 7 containing Korean letters on every Monday the third). Therefore it' just plain stupid to ship code that contains any type of destructive behavior unless you have access to the complete code base and are able to test accordingly or have ways to guarantee code isolation (like running the dangerous/mission critical stuff on dedicated chips).

edit: if you've got time to waste try to get your hands for example on US RTCA DO-178B.

Maybe somebody can start a petition for the clone cart makers to stop making clone carts of the Gateway3DS. :bortz:

I am kinda shocked this thread hasn't been moved to the EoF yet. You seriously think something like this would actually work? It's not like we are talking some company like Nintendo or Sony, we are talking to a group of shady people making shady products, in a shady place. They don't care what they do to your system, just as long as it makes sure you buy their products. No amount of online petitioning will change that.

You mean this isn't in the EOF already? Haven't we had enough of this repetitive bullshit already? The ever-present threads about the GW?

they deleted their tweet to me. i wish i had screen capped it. they clearly stated in the tweet that they had NOT included malicious bricking code. do you really think you are going to get a company to remove code they can't even admit to being there in the first place?

Quote from http://www.gateway-3ds.com/contacts.html:
Team Gateway will EXCLUSIVELY communicate about news/update/info on our official website here or via our official email [email protected]
Anything different such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+, other emails etc. is not coming from Team Gateway. Watch out for fake accounts/scammers!

that is interesting and all but it doesn't change the fact that they continually deny that there is any malicious code. they instead back pedal and blame the clone kits. we have confirmed reports of gateway users bricking their 3ds, yet gateway denied this. they went on to publicly state that all brick claims are false and from the cloners attempting to discredit them. then a few weeks later they begin accepting repair requests?

They're just trying to save face. Like Xbox One and that always online thing or whatever the big hullabaloo was over. Basically, they put their foot in the jacuzzi and found it to be too hot, so they turned down the temperature. Let's just hope the next firmware update with multirom removes the code and doesn't replace it with even more draconian code.

Dude, if the brick code is true, and if you have a way to fix it, and if it mess with other people trying to use your code for theyr profit. And if is very hard to anyone really show a evidence, and if nobody can suit you against it. Why in the hell you will remove it in future updates?
