like the title suggest, I'm looking for a phat PS2 mostly for the possibility of installing an HDD and never have to burn a single dvd.
my question is that I want to know if the modchip installed on the console has some importance on the HDloader or not. my other point is that I also want to run PSone games, I already know that is impossible to load PSone games through HDloader or USB loader, so my question is, what modchip support load PSone backups via disc??. as far as I know some Matrix Infinity clones fail to load PSone backups.
I can buy a PS2 phat with(apparently) an original Matrix Infinity or a virgin PS2 phat and install a modbo 4.0. the virgin option is tempting because the laser is at mint condition for obvious reasons, I'm aware that the modbo is a Matrix clone, but if HDloader and PSone backups works well I'll be happy with that.

Skip HDLoader and use Open PS2 Loader. Modchip should have no impact on softmod. You'll want FreeMcboot along the way to launch Open PS2 Loader.

I have to ask, does your TV support 240p? PS1 game runs at 240p and many modern HDTV does not support such resolution.

thanks, I already bought the phat PS2 with an original Matrix Infinity installed(has fw 1.82) and original memory card. I'll be reading about Open PS2 Loader, I don't think I'll have trouble setting it up, I'm tech savvy and all the mods my consoles have I've done it myself. just need to buy the network adapter and I'm set.

yes, I have tested before running some SNES Virtual Console and Megaman X Collection on my Wii, and now that I have the PS2 tested Castlevania SotN and Marvel vs Capcom, everything looks nice, now to get a component cable to make it look beautiful.

Getting FreeMCBoot on-board is pretty much a prerequisite in terms of PS2 Homebrew - it became the "homebrew community standard" very quickly. I wouldn't completely skip on HDLoader - keep it for compatibility reasons, as not all games work from the HDD on OpenPS2Loader and vice-versa. In fact, with an HDD on-board, you might as well keep several revisions of OpenPS2Loader as well. Other than those backup loaders, always go for the latest revision of any homebrew. Have fun! :yayps3:

just came back here to report that I successfully enabled HDD on my PS2 installing the called PS2 HDD OSD hack and like the video below shows you can use the native PS2 interface to browse the content off the HDD a-la Wii with forwarder channels with custom 3D icons and everything.

I'll do a tutorial if I feel with the mood of doing it, I'm very lazy maintaining those things.
