Okay, here's the skinny...
Got this CECHB (20gb) model ps3 here that I rescued from YLOD before. Seeing the tut for how to update to 4.30 CFW, I didn't want to chance it yet on my CECHA, especially since as I understand, I'd have to downgrade to 3.55 before I could update to another 4.* CFW, so I instead opted to guinea pig with the console that I hadn't been using at all.
The system was on 3.50 OFW... so my first step would naturally be to go to 3.55, right?
Well, that's the issue. As it currently is, it stopped around 60-some % of the way, but it won't proceed any further. It throws up the error code 8002F14E on me and then resets.
Looking up online, I'd been hearing that this is a problem with the BD drive.. which doesn't make much sense, since I could load discs on it fine before I went to go update. I'd seen suggestions about pulling the hard drive partway through the update procedure. This would then let the progress bar get to 99%, but then it would just stop right there.
To date, I've been reading conflicting reports about whether to simply format the hard drive to get it out of this cycle or not... granted, the hard drive in it was simply one I used as a loaner just to help make sure that the console was working. But this situation's put me in a bit of a quandary.
At this point, what can I do to get this PS3 to 'snap out of it' at least, if not to actually finish the update proper?
