Well damn... Since the DM wad is installed the only thing I could think of is the USBLGX version doesn't support GC loading but r1209 does support it.

If your other USB hdd was working but then crashed during the intro of WW, maybe the ISO is bad?? If you ripped it, try ripping again. If it's a d/l, I'd try another d/l version from another source.
You could also check the compatibility list they have too.

edit: have you verified that your HDD is formatted with 32k clusters? DM requires that...

I tried 2-3 of the loaders that were in the guides download. All should be able to play GC ISOs.

I'll try ripping the iso again later, see what happens. Perhaps I'll leave WW intro cycling in Dolphin, see if it crashes there. Can't think it would, but could be worth a try. Guessing there's no way to verify an iso is complete similar to how the md5 things works.

My particular HDD (linked in my previous post) isn't on that list, but it plays Wii ISO's just fine. I did previously play WW with the same ripped ISO and actually played it till I got on the pirate ship, which was about 30 mins after starting the game, then it crashed.

Yes my HDD is FAT32 and 32kb. I made the text document and it said size on disk = 32kb.

I was recommended to install - cios rev 17 base 38 - into slot 247 + cios rev 19 base 37 or 38 - into slot 248
But can anyone tell me where I can download these?
edit: nm - http://filetrip.net/wii-downloads/tools-utilities/download-cios-installer-xr21-f23351.html
I suppose these cIOS were recommended for EmuNAND (N64 games). they are not needed if you don't want to play these VC games.

These installer always install in slot 249 and 250 (a copy of 249 was made in 250 "just in case 249 was accidentally deleted/overwriten").
If you had something installed in these slots it's now overwritten by the cIOS installer version you used.
You can use BlueDump to dump your slots 249 (or 250) to a Wad file, then use ShowMeWads (or another tools) to change the destination slot to 247/248, and reinstall the Wads.
repeat with the next version you want, it will overwrite 249/250, dump, change slot, reinstall.
Then use d2x cIOS installer to reinstall newer cIOS in slot 249/250.

Alternatively, you can use modmii to download specific versions and provide the slots you want to install them. modmii will create the Wads for you, preventing dumping/modding steps.

Second alternative is to install rev17 (slot 249/250), then use d2x and install in slot 250/251 instead of using the "recommended for noob" slots, as long as you understand and remember what is installed in each slot number.

look at my signature, I have different slots with different cIOS version, I use the slot according to my need.
What's important is not the slot number, but what it contains.

Yes Cyan it was for emunand compatibility for those n64 games, just to help since I was having no luck at all with emunand.. fixed it all up by using the usbloadergx nand dump, instead of the bootmii..

A friend has made some wads for me for slots 247/248, so I will reinstall those - I will reinstall d2x v10b for 249/250 again now, thanks for clarification :)

After about a year of reading and tinkering, and the past few hours of my first forum posts in regards to Wii issues, I feel I am finally getting a bit more knowledgable in this area. Thanks so much for your awesome guides and help!!!

Also, is there only one partition? I think I read someone had an issue with DM and the partitions on the HDD.
For re-ripping: I've ripped all of my GC games via USBLGX to the HDD and have had no problems with them. If you ripped via a loader, maybe try CleanRip instead.

Ok so as of right now i dont have time to search through this forum to see if this question has been answered or not. I have already hacked my wii using the letterbomb method. I have homebrew, neogamma etc...

What i really want to have is anyregionchanger. The easiest way i have found to get this is by using wiimod 3.2. the link is here http://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-mod.272321/

Basically my question is what do i have to do before i install wiimod? I have seen things about changing to ios36 or something but im not totally positive how to do that or if i even have to in the first place. If anyone could let me know i would really appreciate it. thanks everyone.

Anyregionchanger can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing... What do you want to do? Region-free loading?
If so, use Priiloader to enable region-free Wii, Wiiare/VC, etc. AFAIK, using Priiloader for region-free gaming is 100% safe versus, not 100% with anyregionchanger.

No basically i want to do it to actually play english games in japanese. Mainly The legend of zelda the wind waker. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the speedrunning community in regards to zelda but japanese text is almost always faster than english. Thats why i want it.

Yeah I've heard that but I didn't know that WW had both EN & JP text on the US game disc (I've never heard that before).
Well, the long and short of it, since your Wii is hacked (to what extent I don't know), be sure you have as much brick protection on there as possible before doing those kind of changes. If you're simply changing the language setting only, anyregionchanger shouldn't give you any trouble (I had to do this for a stubborn Wiiware game).
But if you're already set up for GC loading, I'd probably just get the JP version of LoZWW and not play with system settings. It'd be easier and you wouldn't need to worry about switching your language settings each/sometimes.

First time poster here; I generally try to scour the Internet to answer my questions before I bother others, but I'm lost and could really use help.

For starters, I bought a Wii yesterday and saw that I could buy Zelda: OoT and Majora's Mask. I own both of these on N64 but digital copies would be great. Problem is, I'm on a budget and would rather "hack/mod" my $50 Wii to get the games for free. (I've jailbroken my iPod touch, how much harder could this be?)

So I download the latest version of ModMii installer, follow the directions to the T, my SD card has the right files, The Homebrew Channrl on my Wii Menu.

My issue is this: After successfully soft modding my Wii, I removed the SD card to use it for my camera again. I was under the impression that it was only necessary to get the ball rolling, but it seems that the SD card HAS to remain in the Wii to use all features of Homebrew channel?

Also, I found a .wad of Majora's Mask (~46MB) online and stuck it in the "wdfs" folder of my 16GB USB drive that I intend to use as an external HDD to store games on. When turning on my Wii and accessing Homebrew Channel -> Cfg, it shows a blue bubbly page with "No games found!" on the top.

What do I do? I'm more tech-savvy than your average joe but this stuff is way over my head. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Tl;DR - I has the dumb and need help playing wad games on my soft modded Wii.

Hi all.

i have a PAL wii,modded running 4.3u

Ok, so i originally started modding my wii...pretty much...since the twilight hack first appreared. i also have a 360 which i flashed so my wii has taken a bit of a back seat for a while...about 2 years to be honest so i can only imagine what ive missed.

Reason why im posting is ive just been looking into installing MIOSBIOS to play my GC backups..

But I havnt got a clue about what cios' have been installed/deleted so i used pimp my wii in the HBC as i had read that this would scan and fix any errors.

I ran PMWii which found errors but as it was trying to install the required .wad files..it kept coming back with a 'failed' error. i was running the scan while conntected to wifi so it was nothing to do with internet access.

So i was wondering if it was possible/reccommended to format and start fresh with all official ios' and then re-mod my wii so i have a known starting point to install MIOSBIOS.

Any help would be greatley appreciated.

I have talked to a good bit of wind waker speedrunners and they used the wiimod method to aquire anyregionchanger. So what exactly is brick protection. like what software can i use? I have homebrew with several applications like bootmii, neogamma etc. I just need to make sure that i dont brick anything lol.

I think so, version 1.7.
Bit of an update: Input the majora's mask .wad in the "WAD" folder of the SD card instead of the "wbfs" folder in the USB. Then installed the wad through was manager & it worked. However the fact that I can't load them off of the USB still bothers me.

Also, am I right in saying that, If I wanted to "pirate" a copy of Twilight princess, it'd have to be an .iso rather than a .wad?

Yes, disk games you back up and play will need to be in the /wbfs folder in either ISO format or WBFS format (Wii Backup Manager is a Windows program that can help you there.)

Think of the WAD files as something like ZIP files that need to be unpacked. The Wii NORMALLY would download the unpacked version of those files to it's internal memory to play them so you need them to be where the Wii is going to expect to find them. There's also something called NAND emulation which can use the SD card or USB drive INSTEAD of the Wii's internal memory. ModMii can help you in part of that setup process (also related to Neek2o, UNEEK and SNEEK) but there are some limitations and it's a little more complicated than just installing to your Wii's internal memory the "normal" way.

If you want to do everything off of USB, that's fine. The apps and wad folder can be moved over to your SUB drive as well. That way you can still use your SD card for your camera.

Thanks for your reply, it was incredibly helpful. Is there some way to give you an upvote/points/karma? Because you deserve it.

Just played WW, but I got a US copy from a friend. Lasted for just over 30 mins before the Wii shut off. This is only the third time it has gotten passed the Dios Mios splashscreen.
Yes, there's just one partition and it's primary and active.

Also tried copies of WW from other sources, too. All have the same result. /=

Been a while, got sidetracked by Terraria.

Having bootmii and Priiloader are things you should have to help prevent bricking.
For anyregionchanger, you could also just also put in in your apps folder as well. Never used Wiimod for acquiring an app (homebrew browser a few times).
