As a person who remembers the "bwahaha PSP Go will never be hacked!" followed by "bwahaha DSi Mode will never be hacked!" followed by "bwahaha! 3DS will never be hacked" outbursts of negativity I can assure you that whenever a patch is applied over a vulnerability, it creates two new vulnerabilities because programmers are easily lost in the routine of their job. No system is perfect, all systems are exploitable. Worst comes to worst, where software exploits fail, modchips come into play.

Why do you assume they won't get online working? Online play has been requested a alot, & they have come through on everything else.

So you're saying that come hell or high water, another exploit will be discovered? Kinda hard not to be negative, seeing as, you know, I don't have the money to get another console, used or new. That, and well, I updated TWO DAYS before part one was revealed a while back. Two effing days. I don't know what the reset of the reveal will be seeing as this is a preview.

The NAND size of the 3DS is 1GB so the 2GB card given with the 3DS should be ok (But not if you want to buy big eShop games ^^)

It means the patches such as firmware spoofing, region spoofing, only allowing the gateway card to be used while in gateway mode, and moving the save file to the sd card.

I hope they put in some sort of safety feature so we know if the 3ds is running nand from the console or the sd card. I wouldn't want to update thinking it's running off the sd card only to find I updated the console itself

Pretty sure you'll notice that the Gateway firmware menu clearly popped up. If you won't, then by all means, it's your fault.

Forget what i said. Ya i know the menu has to come up first. I thought they said on next console boot it will load nand from sd card. Stupid me, I read too fast

I want to believe there will be an exploit for newer firmware, and yet, it's hard not to be bitter (even a tad jealous) at those who have 4.5.

I don't see why not if it goes through the authentication. I also don't see why you'd want to - downloadable meh-ni-games (see what I did there?) are meh anyways.

My 3DS XL? I got that because the original 3DS screens were too small for me. Even if I traded it for in-store credit, I'd still be out a good amount of cash. Do they even still sell 2012 3DS XL models at places like Gamestop, etc?

Thanks! If they are running the eshop in Gateway Mode, does that mean that online mode is supported? Would this SD formatter tool erase the games on the SD card, or does it mean that it would just copy and setup the files for the firmware to run? I'm still going to backup my SD card just in case. I'm guessing the emulated system doesn't touch the real NAND so I guess it would be ok to update the emulated NAND.

Not sure about where you live, but around here crusty 3DS boxes mainly gather dust in stores. I'm fairly certain I will be able to find one even at a major retailer.

Because i have 2 xl's. and if i can system transfer then I would have all my stuff on one console. of course online gaming would also need to happen.
