So a few months ago Sony filed for certification for a new PS3 model CECH-42xx in Japan and South Korea according to kotaku. It was speculated that the new model will use a 22nm Cell and/or a 22nm RSX and be released next year (according to a tweet of digital foundry). It seems this isn't the case because apparently the new CECH-42XX model has already been released at least in Europe as you can download manuals for CECH-42xx models directly from Sony.

http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/support/manuals/

I compared the specs between the CECH-40XX and CECH-42XX models and apparently nothing has changed regarding the Cell and RSX as there is no difference between the power consumption of both models.

Anyone picked up a CECH-42XX?

Use black font please.

Anyway, you are limited to ODE which requires soldering. CFW is out of the question for that model. ODE can run some, but not all homebrew.

OK, thanks a lot man :D ^w^

Sorry to bother, but..is there something else should look for whan buying PS3 (i want the best)
And is there difference between Phat and Slim PS3? :)
Some Phats can play PS2 retail discs or SACD. Overall Phats are more bulky, and more prone to failure than Slim.

CECH-20XX are crap. They use 65nm for the RSX chip, are heavv and have heat and noise issues. CECH-21XX are better but ultimately CECH-25xx are the best ones.
If you think CECH-20xxx are bad because of the heat, wait till you deal with Phat PS3.

I didn't recommend CECH-25xxx because not all of them can be downgraded.

In general, CELL used in PS3 runs hotter because they are more performance oriented than x86. CELL can take more beating in temperature than x86.

Phat PS3 is crap. This is common knowledge. There are more downgradable CECH-25xx versions than not downgradable ones.

It's worth it in the end.
Not really. The only major difference between 21xxx and 25xxx are the location of Bluray drive controller.

On 21xxx, it is part of the drive, where on 25xxx it is integrated onto the motherboard. This can be good or bad for 25xxx. Good that if you ever need to replace faulty Bluray drive you can just swap the unit without having to swap the logic board or "remarry" the drive.

It is bad because in order for ODE to emulate BD drive it must solder 4 wires onto the motherboard.

Both 21xxx and 25xxx otherwise are identical (they all use the same CELL and RSX chip).

25xx weighs less, produces less noise and is a bit cooler.

Basically you need a PS3 on 3.55 or lower firmware, or one that was once on that firmware or lower and thus can be downgraded back to 3.55.

No super slims were ever on such a low firmware, which is why they are not an option. 25xxx may or may not be downgradable, 21xxx is downgradable, which is why they recommend that. Slim is recommended over "fat" just because "fats" are prone to the yellow light of death.

So....what's the final verdict? :P
It seems to me that buying PS3 has become a science... I just want PS3 where i can play PS2 games and PS3 pirated ofcourse games and hmebrew stuff...

So the Slim one is better and i should look for 21xxx?
No Slim or Super Slim can play PS2 disc game. Now you can run PS2 Classics (emulation) on CFW PS3, but compatibility is around 80%.

Only FAT PS3 (specifically the one with EE, launch model), has 99% compatibility. FAT PS3, however, is lot less reliable than Slim or Super Slim.

Advice: Play PS2 games on PS2.
