Hardware PSP E1000 vs 3000 screen comparison

Hey guys,

I own PSP model 3000 and this "interlacing" issue is really bothering me. Up to the point where I am considering selling my system and getting PSP E1000.

I have read numerous posts/articles, watched a bunch of YT videos about E1000 but only one relates to this (Eurogamer's) stating that the screen is free from "scalnines" but has it's own issues.

I've tried to get my hands on E1000 in my local video games store, but none of them have display model or simply refuse to let me check it out. When explained why I'm asking one guy said that he "thinks" E1000 also has this issue.

So here is my question for owners of both systems. Does it have this horrid "interlacing" issue or not?

PS. Please note that stuff as lack of wifi, mono speaker or overall build quality isn't in question here, just the screen.

Well a turd doesn't have the interlacing issues either, but it also lacks wifi and stereo.

Try out a 2000.

I really don't know what this interlacing issue is. PSP-3000 has the best screen from everything I have seen. I have watched videos about it and I just don't notice it at all but I can notice the 3000 screen looks better than the older models head to head.

i really wonder how psp go looks in comparison. the screen size is a bit smaller but it looks fine. i haven't seen any issues with the screen.

You should be happy that you don't notice it. To me, this is very serious issue that affects both 2D and 3D games. It simply distracts me and takes away a lot of fun (e.g. Lunar: Silver Star Harmony looks like crap).

In the first post I have stated that I've found only one article which relates to this issue and it was Eurogamer's. I just wanted confirmation from someone who owns both E1000 and 3000.

Interlacing is only visible with movement on the screen.

When I bought my brand new PSP 3000 I noticed "interlacing" and/or "scanlines" right away after turning on the system (plus as long time owner of DSL I was suprised by overall poor build quality of the PSP), so convincing me that those lines can be seen only during movement does not resolve the issue. The whole thing didn't come up during my research on which system to choose. Everyone was pushing towards model 3000 stating that it has superior screen. Well, to me it was huge disappointment and just couple of days after getting my PSP I have started to think which model should I get instead of faulty 3000.

Fortunately, today I had opportunity to get my hands on both 2000 and E1000 and check them out. As I expected, the 2000 looks muddy and washed out. E1000 looks decent, although I have observed that pixel boarders are more visible (at least that is what it looks like). What I also noticed was strange plastic used in E1000, which was similar to material used in some kind of low quality industrial devices/tools.

After giving it some though I think I'll get E1000. I couldn't care less about lack of WiFi (I mainly play single player RPG's/SRPG's) or mono speaker (I always use headphones). Although the plastic is cheap, it feels much better than shiny-sticky piano black 3000 (also hated that on my black DSL). My only concern is longevity.

All in all, it was worth asking, so thank you for your opinions.

No no, I'm saying that the 3000's interlacing is very noticeable and the reason that some people say they don't see it in screenshots is because it's not visible in screenshots of still scenes.

You're a compatriot of mine so I'll give you a piece of advice.

I had the pleasure to use the PSP-2000, E1000 and 1000 and I strongly suggest that you get an early 2000 if possible (Data Code 8B or lower), if not, get a PSP-3000.

The E1000 is flimsy, the built quality is poor, it lacks WiFi or stereo sound and it's generally more advisible to get a pre-owned older PSP than this model, at least in my opinion.

The E1000 or "PSP Street" is literally a ghetto model for those users who can't afford a PSP-3000 and there are good reasons as to why it's cheaper.

Screw PSP 1000, 2000, 3000 and E1000. Get a PSP Go which screen is amazingly sharp and crisp and it doesn't have this scanlines issue. But only if you can afford losing the UMD drive.

...if you want a fantastic quality screen and don't mind the expense, screw the UMD drive. PSP titles cost next to nothing on PSN these days - you'll get those games for 20zł or so and the quality of the OLED more than makes up for the expense, not to mention the dual analog sticks and... well, PSPlus.

If you insist, the PSP-2000 has the best screen of all of them and is very affordable on Allegro and EBay.

That's a valid point. I recently had an opportunity to check out Vita and the screen is gorgeous, the device feels sturdy, high quality material were used. On the downside, d-pad and buttons are much smaller than in PSP. I guess it was designed for dual analogs, so it was not so important. But the price... . Also, I don't find new Vita games interesting, so I would buy it primarily to emulate PSP.

Regarding PSN, it's really shame that some games (such as mentioned before) were released only on UMD's. If not for that, I would get PSP Go, not 3000.

there is a legal (at least in most countries) way to play umd-only games on psp go. buy a cheap psp with a working umd drive. install custom firmware on it which lets you dump the umd as an .iso file. than install custom firmware on your psp go and play that iso. as you legally own the umd, there is no piracy involved.

still 2 psps will be cheaper than vita. psp 1000 series are getting cheaper and cheaper around me.

You don't seem to know how piracy law works. Piracy law works by making anit-piracy circumvention illegal. Installing CFW alone is considered circumventing anti-piracy mechanism. Copying game to another system and play it even though you still have the disc itself is also considered anit-piracy circumvention.

Having the disc alone doesn't make it legal to do copying/backup. Having the disc only gives you the right to play particular game using the disc itself. This is how the law works.

As gamers though, just enjoy your game whichever way you want. There is no point to talk about the law.

that isn't how the law is. that is what EULA says, which can't decide what is legal or illegal. as i have said, most countries allow you to have a backup, and you can use it as you wish as long as you don't give them to others, sell them, rent them etc.

still i agree with you as it is irrelevant as a gamer.

Legal or not, I use PSN to buy games for both PS3 and PSP and I don't want any issues with firmware upgrades or anything.
