The headset (which is not tied to the company's existing Wearable HDTV Personal 3D Viewer, pictured above) uses the PS4's PlayStation Eye camera, like Move did, for head tracking. This, say people who have used it, makes the headset even more accurate than the Oculus Rift - though it does present some aesthetic challenges.

At present, the working prototype for the headset, which select developers currently have in house, looks much like Oculus' better-known VR system - with ping pong balls attached. The design is not expected to be final.

I won't even lie, this sounds pretty fucking cool. Would probably be the thing that gets me to purchase a PS4.

I already posted this earlier this week but yours is pretty updated anyway.
I very interested in this but pretty sad that it won't be at the TGS this year. :(

"with ping pong balls attached"

Does Sony have a fetish for ping pong balls or something? Like they'll take an existing, currently popular technological trend... and add ping pong balls to it. Happened with the Move at least.

But hey if it works then no complaints, sounds cool as fuck.

Only thing Oculus rift has going for it is PC compatibility which is more important to me. I would be only tied down to PS4 games with it. I want to play a VR system with game mods and custom software/custom games which is really only availble on PC. With the Oculus could be used on any game that runs on pc if coded.

Other than that it is cool but I hate being tied down to only playstation games which cant be modded.

Do you know how the Move works?

Wow Sony is in serious danger of making a machine more than equally compelling this time around.

That said if they can get some game devs to make things it might do well for the same on other platforms (and it is software not hardware/tech that seems to mostly be the problem) and that is something I can definitely get behind.

On a serious note, this thing better be affordable if it wants to succeed. Their current model is $1000. Let's see if they manage to add the extra functions while dropping the price to below $500 (arbitrary public-interest-cutoff-point pulled out of ass). The Oculus Rift is aiming at a $300 price tag for the retail model.

I wish them luck with this. VR would be awesome.
